You can eyeball, measure, or jig what ever. This thing has multiple purposes from giving guidelines to being the guide to being a useful beater block lol. It also allows you to put pressure on bowed or warped stain grade trim. Holding to exactly 1/4”. Idk I use it daily in production level finish work.

I haven't used it yet but the design is very smart and I'm sure it will save me a lot of time doing our full house of door casings, trim and baseboards.

In the past I’ve made something similar for every trim job if I can’t find the last one I made. With this in my bags, I can just get to work. The orange is easy to spot if I set it down as well.

2 issues with this tool. First is how incredibly small it is. It wouldn’t take much at all to lose or misplace this item. Smallest reveal gauge I’ve seen in 20 years as a carpenter.Secondly is how micro the pencil holes are. Need to reshapen your No. 2 pencil over and over to consistently fit in the holes.
