I've done the job this bit is designed for many times over 50 years and wish I'd had this. The time and frustration saved would have been enormous! This time I used it to pull cords and cables for flat screen TVs and satellite receivers in two rooms where we've been seeing those ugly wires for years. I hadn't done it before because, in both cases, there was a fire break in the path. The 54-inch length and its combination of flexibility and 100% memory make the job so much simpler and faster. I recommend spending the $33 even if your only pulling cable once! That's how much easier it makes the job.

This review is for the Flexible Installer Drill Bit for Pulling Wires Through Walls Ceilings and Sidewalks, 54-Inch Long, 3/4-Inch Auger with a Fish Eye Hole and Screw Point, 1/4" 3-Flat Anti-Slip Shank. It was not as flexible as my husband had hoped. He said it took a bit of a learning curve to use it and be certain you've got it where you want it but, once he practiced and got comfortable with it, it was fine. There were no instructions included, which is the reason for 3.5 stars.

Extremely useful for adding wiring to an existing structure with minimal disruption.

This is a 54" bit, so expect it to take a bit of space among your other drill bits. Very long bit, but also, very strong and very sharp. Easy to use, but you have to have a good grip on the drill to hold that length of a bit.

At 54-3/16" long overall, they give you every bit of the 54" specified. A bit like this comes in handy in renovations and old work when you don't have the benefit of open wall cavities like you would in new construction. It enables you to drill at steep angles through a newly cut opening for an outlet or switch, and if you plan it carefully will allow you to complete a renovation without having to make any dedicated access cuts in the wall. In many situations, this will be just enough length to get from a standard height wall switch opening down through a bottom wall plate and sub-floor. This is great for getting new wires from an unfinished basement or crawl space. Of course it can be used horizontally to get through to a neighboring stud bay too. Of course, make absolutely sure there is no existing electrical, plumbing, or ducting in the way prior to doing any drilling. The shaft is only 3/16" in diameter, which makes it very flexible, which is nice for getting a steep enough drill angle without damaging existing wall surfaces. Both the drilling end and the shaft end have a hole that can assist in pulling a wire back or through, which can help speed up the fishing process. The auger bit has a self feeding tip, which helps start & pilot your hole, but can also help pull the bit through the cut as you drill. The shaft has 3 flats on the end to help engage with the chuck of your drill, which helps minimize slipping in the jaws. There are no accessories included, no storage protector for the end either, but the bit gets the job done.

Having a long bit like this allows you to drill while standing on the floor, or to get behind an obstruction, so if you do very much work on your or other's homes, it's a super handy tool. On the other hand, remember that is IS self driving, so you do have to keep a firm grip on your drill so it doesn't throw you around, and I suspect that the long 54" one I ordered has more flex than the short one. On the other hand, if you have to run very many wires, well, being able to control exactly where you want the holes and fitting in tight places just really requires something like this.I did knock off one star because mine was more rounded than hex on the drill end, and therefore required more effort to secure it in the drill and make sure it didn't slip. It is a minor issue, but if you use your chuck key on every hole each time you put it in the drill, it WILL hold tight..
