With some previous bad experience with Chinese battery spot welders I was very undecided on getting this one. Actually saw it for about $12.00 cheaper on a Chinese outlet, however was not going to take any chances. Paid a bit more on Amazon with certainty I'll be returning it. Besides, it takes weeks to get it from overseas. To my surprise, this unit works way better than I expected. I've been a battery pack welding nut for last few days and this tool works awesome. I'm keeping it. Thanks FNIRSi - well done!

This is the second battery spot welder I've tried, and the first from FNRSI.The product comes with charging cable, a pair of welding electrodes with 8-gauge cables (adequate for these very short pulses), spare tips, a roll of nickel strip, and a "manual" (instruction pamphlet).Having read the manual, I understand that I can adjust the duration of the pre-heat pulse, the main pulse, the delay between them, and the total number of pulses. The manual says NOTHING AT ALL about how you SHOULD adjust these settings depending on what you're welding. The display gives a reading of maximum current (I guess) after each weld. I tried adjusting the number of pulses up, but it didn't appear to change anything, either in the weld or on the display. That said, I used this to weld some of the included nickel strip to an expired coin cell. After the pulse, there were two small spots on the strip (no sparks or pops during the weld itself). I thought the weld had failed, but when I tried to pull off the strip, it was VERY firmly attached. This weld, with the default settings, was stronger than any of the welds I've managed so far with the other unit.I obviously have a lot to learn about spot welding, but it looks to me like this unit does an excellent job with its default settings, and I assume it'll let me do more as my knowledge grows. I wish it included at least a very basic guide showing settings for various materials, but I suppose I'll figure it out.

Really works for repair of small battery packs, and in my case it was a battery pack for a cordless hand held vacuum.LCD screen shows all of the needed information for easy set up, and once appropriate mode is selected, pens are placed on the tab strip and when activated, small weld divots are created that securely hold the the strip to the battery cell.Mode selection really is a matter of trial and error, so a test weld is needed prior to using up strips, but the initial standard setting is usually the best one. This spot welder is so portable that it left me wondering what else can be used for, but as it, 5000mah is enough charge to put together most battery packs before a recharge will be needed.

This has a lot of settings to change to make it work as you need it to, but the instructions are not that good at helping you figure out what a good beginning setting would be for what situation. The instructions give you an idea of what each setting does and how it functions, but are not that clear as to what you would need to change to improve a joint. When used onto a harder surface like the can on a battery, it produces a nice small weld that holds good. But when making a joint on two pieces of the nickle strip, the points dent the strip if used on a compressible surface. This spreads out the surface area of the weld and now it is not as good as it didn't get as hot at any one point. There is a learning curve with this, but it has potential to perform well once you get your technique down.
