This DAC blew me away with its sound for its size. It was smaller than I expected, which made it perfect for portability. Its 220mW headphone amplifier is crazy, enough to power any headphones you could want and make them pop. There was no distortion as advertised; it made my IEMs sound great, and I could hear every detail in the songs. I have a small complaint about how the volume control works, as there isn't a visual top and bottom for the volume, and you have to guess, but the buttons are simple. I haven't had any issues with temperature running this at 32-bit, 384kHz for extended periods of time. Overall, this works perfectly for my use case, and I will definitely take this with me on trips. I don't have to sacrifice the sound I'm used to at home when I travel. I would definitely recommend this, as it's affordable, portable, and reliable.

This has worked really well as a DAC and mini-amp. I've used it to connect headphones to a smartphone, and a DMP to an audio amp as a jack converter. Both situations work well. The unit is very solid and made of cast or machined metal. It's a bit heavy so adds some weight to your audio rig by the time you add up the source, this DAC, and any extra headphone cords, but it works well and sounds really good. Can get good signal from a weak source (phone) or to high impedance headphones. Simple to operate -- plug and play.

As with any item like this, your mileage may vary.I’ve had this about a year. I don’t love it but I don’t hate it.A year ago I got my first higher end headphones and decided I needed to take the plunge into the audiophile world.The unit is pretty small - which is nice with simple controls. The unit does drain your phone’s battery hard. I always have my power plugged in when I use it. The unit will put out a fair amount of heat. It seems like they could/should have designed it with a onboard heat synch, but that may be something you get on higher end models. I like the quality, especially the braided cable.Overall this is a decent unit and a good value. I would recommend this to a first time DAC AMP user.I’ll be upgrading this down the road, but this is a nice entry level DAC AMP.

I believe the chip could be the best chip for portable DAC at this moment, the chip model starting with "C" is far below this one. The audio quality is awesome, build quality is solid, the cable is reliable and it doesn't go very hot for long time use

Great DAC. Instantly upgrades any smartphone. If you value accurate music playback, you won't regret buying this DAC. It gets somewhat warm during use, but never hot. As long as Apple and Samsung continue using inferior DACs in their phones, this DAC is the way to go.

The sound is really good, but every few seconds the audio glitches out with a vinyl-type scratching sound effect which really just takes away from any immersion you might have had listening to a song.

I was excited by the size and apparent portability of the Fosi DS1, thought I'd scored a real dead when i first got it because it sounded great on my phone and PC. It was able to drive the Drop Sennheiser 58X without any problem with lots of headroom off my phone and laptop. The DS1 didn't do such a great job on the Hifman Drop HE X4, it certainly amped the volume, but I still had to crank the device volume to 90 or so for it to get loud. I imagine balanced cables would be in order for that particular low sensitivity headphone.BUT I'M BURYING THE LEAD!!! The Fosi DS1 literally FELL APART after two days of light use. The back plate simply wasn't there anymore. I looked all over my bedroom and found it on my night stand just sitting there. The guts of the unit were exposed. I thought there would be a way to snap it back into place, but there wasn't. It still worked, but the plate wouldn't stay on. I returned it.

I purchased this DAC mainly because I upgraded my iPhone and no longer needed a lightning to 3.5mm adapter. The idea of a portable amp/DAC intrigued me for years, but i was waiting for the technology to improve. I’m glad I waited for this little gem. The performance for under $80 bucks is fantastic. It drives my 150ohm Drop 58x headset with ease on the low gain setting. I’ve hooked up a set of Westone IEMs as well, and the sound is full and powerful. The volume rocker on the unit lets you max out the source and control volume locally in smaller increments as well. I don’t have a balanced cable yet, but I can’t wait to try the 4.4mm output one day.One things to note is that it’s fairly heavy for how small it is. Feels very solid and expensive in hand though. I‘m hoping that translates into something super durable to take on the road with me. Overall, I’m very pleased!

I was very pleasantly surprised at the sound quality from this unit. Its very musical sounding, with especially good bass reach and midrange quality. Its quite small but feels substantial because the fine materials it is made from. MP3's from my laptop sound much cleaner, and tighter sounding. The bass is clean and punchy. And I can hear more ambient information as well. They are about 8 yrs old, but my AKG K550 Reference headphones sound so good now. Volume is no issue, as I have to reduce it alot. The only potential problem area may be the lead for the USB plug. Its pretty thin and light and may not hold up as well as the actual DAC unit itself. I cannot comment on battery life since it runs off my laptop. Even still, I do highly recommemd this item.
