Well made, sturdy. It works with rails and comes with pieces to attach to either rails, a screw down point, or to just screw the thing onto the end of the lens without any other attachment points. Very versatile.

** Update 2022-12-29 **Fotga contacted me and was very helpful in working through the issue. If you disassemble the double ended 15mm rod clamp, remove the metal washer from in between the two halves, and the reassemble the clamp, the clamp will hold securely and the matte box won't rotate out of place. In the time that I was emailing back and forth with Fotga, I tried rigging the matte box with some other spare parts I had and found two-point rail mount option that works for me so I decided not to return it. Either with their rod clamp or my jury rigged version, it is a nice lightweight option that suits my needs well. Also, after working with the various adapter rings for filters, and installing and removing them several times, the adapter ring mount seems to be working better than I originally stated and holds in place just fine.I do wish they would provide some instructions that would have saved me some time, but I appreciate that they contacted me to resolve the issue.I upgraded my rating from 2 to 4 stars because the end result is the exact matte box that I wanted. Without the hassle and with some instructions about the rod clamp, I would have rated 5 stars.Thank you Fotga!** Original Review **I tinkered for about an hour and could not get the matte box to stay in place. The 15mm adjustable rod connector will not tighten enough to prevent the matte box from rotating. I gave up on that and tried mounting directly to the lens. The 67mm lens adapter does not stay securely in the matte box either. All of the positive reviews that I saw showed that they were mounting directly to the lens. For my setup, I want to be able to change lenses without fiddling with the matte box and ND filter so mounting with the 15mm rail make the most sense.I really wanted this to work out for me. It seemed to be just what I needed, lightweight, small and holds square and circular filters, but I'll be returning it and finding another option.

I really like this matte box. Good price, light, and relatively compact.

I’m not sure if this has happened to anyone but I recently received this as a gift and the door is slightly bent. I haven’t used it yet and when I put it on the rig, I noticed that it’s a slight curve. Is there something I can do? Should I return it or request a new door?UPDATE 12-24-23I emailed them about the barn door and they sent a replacement! It delivered right before Christmas and they were helpful. Overall, the item in general serves great purpose and is quite nice. The material is good but I do wish that it came with more support bars.

Just be aware this is a “mini“ Matt box. It only has an upper barn door and there appears to be no way to attach additional ones. It appears to be made of carbon fiber and the construction is extremely well done.It comes with the adapters for the larger lens sizes from 72 mm up to 87 I think. If you have a smaller lens you will have to buy additional adapters but it also has a rail mount. So if you’re using a railed camera set up you don’t have to worry about adapters at all.It was perfect for my needs because I usually don’t use side barn doors and I’ve never used the lower one. It has the filters slot for 4 x 4 and 4 x 5 filters with a little locking knob. Every moving part on this thing is highly precision machine and functions well. It feels like a much more expensive item. And Matt boxes are usually quite expensive so the pricing on this is well worth it.Just be aware if you’re going to need something bigger this one is not really expandable.

I review this as someone who owns almost every matte box on the market under $300 including ones from SmallRig, Tilta and ProAim. With that in mind I feel that this is the best mini matte box on the market for several reasons. The first is the cost. Currently at the time of this review it is one of the cheapest matte boxes available while having some of the best build quality along with several accessories not included for some of the others. You not only get the matte box and top flag but also the 15mm rod adapter for mounting to your rig. You can mount directly to the lens with the included lens adapters. The matte box supports both 4x4 and the larger 4x5.65 filters and the claim you can also use circular lens filters but I did not have the opportunity to test this out yet. The top of the matte box has numerous mounting points included a couple of 1/4 20 holes, a 3/8 hole and 2 cold shoe mounts. Just keep in mind you aren't going to want to mount very heavy gear here especially if you are using the lens adapter to mount directly on your lens. You might be able to get away with heavier stuff on those mounting points if you are using the 15mm rod adapter but you will need to really crank down the screws on the rod adapters if you don't want the matte box moving around. If other video shooters are honest with themselves they should admit that a big part of wanting a matte box in the first place is customer perception. Don't get me wrong these matte boxes certainly provided some much needed functionality if you are trying to avoid glare and using larger filters, but nothing makes a camera rig look more professional that a great looking matte box and this one from Fotga looks fantastic. It's the perfect size if you are rigging up a mirrorless camera and I think this one is so much better built than their older and much larger DP300 matte box.
