I got this as a replacement for a Starrett that was stolen and thought I'd give it a shot. These are really very nicely made and work well. Mine did require a slight half thou calibration tweak out of the box but that's easy enough to do. The included standard is accurate and lapped - exactly matches the Starrett and some other unknown brand I have. Case is good, too. Faces are nicely lapped and as near as I can tell they are parallel. The thimble on mine is generally super smooth turning and has no play in it but there are times when it has a little resistance to it - doesn't seem to be repeatable in the same location but it happens frequently and it doesn't affect accuracy, just annoying. I'll disassemble it to see if that's correctable. The ratchet is extremely light and sometimes will act when turning the thimble quickly or when it runs into that blip resistance - may see if there's a way to stiffen that up to make it match the Starrett and B&S more closely. Visually it's taking me a little adjustment to quickly read the scale since the top halves and bottom quarters are split with a gap between them - kinda prefer the Starrett there. The ratchet cap and lock lever are both metal, by the way.At any rate, even if there is a little "fowler tax" on the price here for this China import, it's very well done and is worth the purchase - not quite the same but extremely close to higher quality mikes and I think already that I can trust it. I actually don't use this 2" size a lot so I expect it will last me a very long time. I imagine that there are still poor quality import mikes out there but comparing this to the first ones that began appearing in the 90s, they are worlds apart and the quality is here in this one.Edit: Disassembled and didn't see any debris or schmoo, threads are super clean cut...half a drop of oil, reassembled and it's smooth sailing. Carefully and slightly stretched the ratchet spring and it improved its feel so it's very similar to the Starrett now. Nice mike.

It's a well-made micrometer, from China. No complaints given the price. It actually seems to be better made than many of the Chinese pseudo-tools. I checked the reference gauge against my (expensive, American B&S) mike and gauge, spot-on. The only reason I give it 4 stars is that it would be nice to get real American products of this quality at this price-point. BTW, even the manual is surprisingly well written, unusual for Chinese products.
