I got tired of measuring valve shims in inches and having to convert to metric on my motorcycles. With this one you can press a button and get the results in millimeters!Most under-bucket type motorcycle shims are soft steel, and you can hand sand them down to what ever you need for clearances. Much better than ordering and waiting for shims that only come in .05mm increments.The tool works well, and is well worth the low cost.

Have been using mechanical micrometers for years, supplemented by digital calipers in my home shop. Decided to give these a try as it is becoming more difficult to read the mechanical mics- not their fault- my old eyes. Found these to be very fast, very accurate (was verifying accuracy with a feeler gage set and found a bad feeler gage!!!!!!) and make it much easier to get good quick bearing fits. The large digits, and 4-digit accuracy are a plus! Will see how durable they are but the price point makes them much more attractive to use than buying new mechanical mics-

I like this micrometer because it is fairly compact and has a plastic case with beveled edges (instead of square corners).Having not used it extensively, nor compared it to higher-end mics, any accuracy rating would be basic conjecture for me.I can tell you that the digital feature is nice, and that it's easy to use, and the two adjusters feel 'solid' and sturdy in use.One issue I've had with it is that, after several days of non-use, when I went to use it, the digital display would not turn on. I believe this was most likely due to the device being unknowingly 'on,' i.e. not shut off as intended, and so the battery ran out. I have not attempted to change the battery yet, and so cannot confirm yet.That being said, the only improvements I would make would be:* perhaps a slightly larger screen, with an *LED* display (for minimal/limited lighting conditions) instead of the LCD.* an auto-shut-off feature, to save power and avoid battery drain* micro USB-C based (or even wireless-based) power sourceAdding such features would probably add bulk/dimension to the device,not to mention price, so the tradeoff is there to pick your priorities.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this micrometer considering that the price was fairly low. I checked its accuracy against a much more expensive one. The digital readout is so easy to view.

The readout is large enough to make sure you read the correct dimensions. The readout is in thousandths, but converting to fractions , by using a reference chart is a breeze

Good price. Least count is 0.0001 inch = 0.1 mil, and 0.001 mm = 1 micron. The case contains a plastic tool to open the battery cover. Doing the cleaning as per instructions will prevent sticking of the carbide anvils. I think I'll give the tool to my 12-year old grandson so he can learn about small dimensions and small changes in dimensions. His smaller hands than mine will require two handed operation of the tool.Part 7, labeled the "thimble" is really the ratchet. Part 6, labeled "the ratchet" is the small diameter and is hard attached to the shaft and would better be called a spinner.The one-page manual is, as usual, written in Chinglish. At the bottom left, the last of a series of comma-spliced sentences reads: "when hear the load beating pieces ring 3 to 5 times, stop the rotation, to ensure accurate measurement". The "rings" are clicks of the ratchet. Several extra fast clicks of the ratchet will close the reading by perhaps 1 more micron. The ratchet standardizes the measurement force at roughly 1.5 Lb. With the 1/4" diameter shaft, the pressure is about 30 PSI. You still would not get a highly accurate measurement of the thickness of a slice of American cheese.One turn of the shaft changes the reading by 1/2 mm so it takes about 50 turns to cover the span.Remember the shop rule: DO NOT USE A MICROMETER AS A C-CLAMP! (Wry humor.)

Micrometer worked fine for a little over a month, then it went haywire and became useless.

I know most of the world runs on metric but I wanted to use this to measure small differences in guitar strings which are in inches. Naturally, the default for this tool is millimeters but if you try to set to inches, if it switches at all, it will switch back to metric before you can take your measurement.Now you're thinking, I can fool it. I can take the measurement in mm, then just hit the button to convert to inches. Well, they thought of that. If you take a measurement in mm, and try to switch the reading to inches, the micrometer zeros out. So I can't use it unless I want to google the conversion for each reading. But it is very repeatable, which is impressive for an inexpensive tool. It generally doesn't return to zero, but that's just a button press, no big deal.
