Had an old Gallagher 800 around a very sandy 240 acre wheat pasture for years, then it just quit on us. Tried a cheaper 6 joule charger for a couple of weeks, but due to the drought the calves would not be able to ground and it wouldn't give them a shock when they got into the fence. Got pretty frustrated and ordered this M1100 charger. It worked pretty well, but kept sparking at the old grounding wire. Put a proper grounding wire on and a 7 foot copper rod and now this thing really works. Calves haven't gotten out since we put it on the fence and we still haven't had any rain to help with the moisture/grounding issue of the cattle and the sandy soil, but this charger is powerful enough to still do the job. May order another to go around the 880 acres along the river.

Has worked well so far on our cow calf operation. Running on a 20 acre field split into 9 paddocks with 4 wire high tensile fence. I do have a fenceline cutter so not a lot of grass on fence.

This makes for a great electric fence. It is very powerful, keeps working even when grass and small limbs have fallen on the wire. My cows definitely respect it! The voltage lights are easy to see at just a glance.
