Who needs expensive voicemail when you have the options available on the GE 29878GE1? In this fully digital system, the design incorporates five simple buttons that allow you to delete, fast forward, and save messages; all functions can be accessed remotely. Each message is stamped with the date and time received, and you can program in a personalized code for added security.
Auto disconnect provides a simple method of call screening, and the electronic volume control prevents messages from interrupting other conversations. The memo function allows you to leave messages for other members of your household. For memos and standard messages, the total recording time available is 14 minutes.
GE includes a one-year warranty that covers parts and service.

My experience with this has been okay. I've had mine two or three years at least. The message audio quality is understandable but could be much better. I don't get a lot of calls and just needed something to take an occasional message when I'm out or screening calls. This has worked just fine - up to now. I just realized that it's started cutting callers off after 15 seconds, even though the recorded voice verifies that it's set for 2 minute record time (can computers lie?), so I'll be replacing it soon. All in all, it's been okay, but like the others say, I guess you get what you pay for.

My 88 yr old father needed it to replace his old one which was just like it and lasted for well over 10 years. He could not learn to operate the newer ones that we tried. This is the one he is used to. This one is simple and stress free for him. It works great. He loves it and I am so happy to have found it.

The screw to unscrew the battery would not come out I was not able to use the device at all I had exact same one before and it did work well but this 1 I could not

This answering machine lost power after 1 month and when I plugged it in it beeped forever and stopped working. I had a similar failure with my previous GE answering machine and had to throw both of them away. I've never heard of this trouble with other brands, but I should have known better as every GE thing I've ever had the misfortune of working with has broken.Learn from my horrible experience and do not buy a GE consumer product, fly in a plane with a GE engine, buy GE stock, or believe Jack Welch when he says he isn't a crook. And then write your congressman, suggesting he or she pass a law requiring GE to produce nothing but light bulbs. If you don't do all of those things, just be very sure not to buy a GE answering machine.

Have had this machine for years. It has worked well but recently misplaced the manual and can't seem to figure out how to record the greeting. Would like to see instructions if anyone has them. Pls email to pingclee@gmail.com Thanks!

With the DSL filter you can hear someone leaving a message but it doesn't actually register and record the message. Without the DSL filter it records the message but it's so garbled with interference that you can't understand it. I'll give it 3 stars despite these issues, because set up was easy and it works without DSL (as well as can be expected for a CHEAP product).If you have DSL only buy this: 1-to screen calls when you're home (with filter on), 2-to set an outgoing only message, 3-for any sort of target practice, or 4-to dissect for a science project...
