This tool makes putting a new belt quite easy [(while without the tool it was extremely difficult with the original motor that had a long spindle and impossible with a new motor that had a short spindle (aka drive shaft)]. And $32 may sound a little pricey for something that looks so simple but it fits perfectly and makes the job easy and is still much cheaper than paying a repairman. PS some videos show using one zip tie but that didn't work. To get the belt to go on the first time (1) use the GE washer belt install tool and put the belt over the tool (2) secure the belt to the main drive wheel under the washer with one zip tie ahead of a spoke and then one behind it (3) rotate the main drive wheel and put one zip tie ahead of the next spoke and one behind it and then (4) rotate the main wheel all the way around and the belt will work its way on and then you can remove the zip ties (I used strong reusable ones but normal ones can be used if you want). Instructional videos show people using one zip tie but when I tried that with a new belt it failed every time to get the belt on; it only worked for me with 4 zip ties secured around 2 spokes as explained. Hope that helps.

I didn’t think I could get the new belt on before I picked up this install tool, and I was almost ready to buy a new washer! The belt would start to twist as I rotated the pulley wheel and there was not enough clearance under the pulley, with the belt all the way up on the motor shaft grooves, to feel like I could keep guiding the belt without pinching my fingers. I know it seems costly, but with this tool, I was able to do it, and it was fairly easy. I let the belt angle down from the motor shaft grooves onto the install tool, which gave me enough clearance to guide the belt, keep it from twisting, and not feel like I would pinch my fingers. I suggest watching a couple of videos. Wear some gloves. I was able to do it with just one zip tie. Don’t be afraid to use some steady force while turning the pulley wheel. The belt fits. You can do it!!

My belt broke on my 10 year old washer. The cost of service call alone made me question whether it wouldn’t just be time to replace the washer. I decided to attempt it myself because the belt & this tool were half the cost of just getting a repairman to look at it. I planned to purchase a new washer if I was unable to effectively replace the belt. This tool made what I thought was impossible for me as a woman with no prior knowledge or experience working on a washer & saved me a lot of money.

I used it to replace a drive belt on a GE washer. Well worth the cost.

“$30 for a piece of plastic and an o-ring?!” Yes. Buy this. You will regret not buying this. Also buy a ziptie while you’re here.
