I first thought it would not be useful as usually you can check the tires and conclude whether they are still fine, but I bought anyway as sometimes there are parts along the tire that are harder to see, especially when it’s dark. For my surprise it was quite helpful and very simple to use. In a couple of seconds you can easily check along different parts of the tires. In order to not bother, I just leave it in the car when not being used, so whenever it comes to my mind to check the tires I don’t need to bring it from the house. It also feels good quality.

All my life I've used the penny method ("if you can't see the top of Abe's head, you need new tires"). And it worked just fine. Only problem was, on rear tires where you can't crank the wheels to display the entire tread, it was sometimes hard to get accurate readings on the INSIDE edge. Also, it only told you if your tires were OK, not how much tread you had left.So I decided to get a gauge. I found many. Some were pricey...I don't need a gauge THAT badly. These Godeson gauges were very inexpensive, and the problems described in the 1- and 2-star ratings seemed minor. Besides, I thought it would be nice to have two -- one in my shop, one in my tool-box...I decided to give them a try. They arrived today. I got the ones showing both MM and 32nds of an inch. They are much better than I expected. As others have noted, the calibration was just a bit off. That is, with the gauge pressed down on a hard, flat surface, they both read a fraction above zero, both by about 1/64". To get them to read zero, I had to grind a bit off the ends of the blades on a diamond sharpening stone -- I had to be careful not to grind off too much.Once the zero settings were achieved (three minutes to do both), I tested their readings, using a good caliper, for various depths from an eighth of an inch up to about half an inch. All readings matched the calipers within a couple thousandths of an inch.OK, I'm a perfectionist. Please understand, I didn't have to do any modification to these gauges: RIGHT OUT OF THE PACKAGE, they would have given me readings accurate to 1/64th of an inch. Who really needs better than that?As to their ability to hold a reading, they both have some sort of damping in the barrel to keep the blade held in place. I have no way of knowing if this will be true...they could loosen up in time. If they do, I'll find a way to tighten them up, shouldn't be rocket surgery. And if needed, I can buy two more for about the price of a caramel frappuccino.

Works great for checking depth of grooves being cut into concrete airfield pavement. I found myself in need of measuring tool which was delivered on Saturday and put to use on Monday. Works great and like having digital readout. Don’t need to switch to reading glasses as I take readings.

This little tool is fast and accurate. I have two, one for my CNC machine and the other in my toolbox. Very handy.

These tread gauges are perfect to diy tire check. They are well built and a nice product for so little money. The color visual aid is perfect to indicate if you are in the green or not.

Somewhat made ok. They do what they are supposed to do and that's all I needed.

2 in a pack for less than a fiver. Simplicity in itself. Small enough to leave in the glove box. Look as they they'll last. No issues.

Easy to read and inexpensive, only issue was the measurement liners start to peel at the corners over months of wear.
