a) NOTE I ORDERED BOTH OF THESE INDIVIDUALLY. They do not come as a set, but are the same MFG and equal quality ( one is a 3 string version, the other is a 4 string) b) Arrive well packaged and undamaged. c) These look and feel like gold plated solid brass, even though they are not. d) The 3 string retainer is for 4 string basses and the 4 string retainer is for 5 string basses ( you usually don't retain the low E string). D) Before you make screw marks, loosen up your strings and place these where the strings are least stressed at the top and bottom of the retainers, then mark the holes and remove retainer before drilling pilot holes. These are solid and anchor the strings well. e) The only potential issue I can see is the edges are somewhat sharp and potential might cut into the string, but I doubt that will be an issue. You won't be able to file them down without removing the finish so I don't recommend that. If your hardware is gold colored, I recommend these!

This is substantial/heavy; important. I added it to a Fender short-scale P/J Mustang bass, which has a typical amount of real estate on the headstock and it wasn't tough, once I'd removed the stock tree.I like the thoughtful layout of the string slots, and the width is on-target for a Jazz-width nut. One thing that concerns me is the juncture of the trees and strings. There is "more of a corner" there than I'm used to with string trees, and I'm nervous that it will simply wind up cutting the string as it is played over time. If that occurs, I will update. Otherwise, nice string tree for good price.

Good for locking strings in place and retaining tension, also retains the life of the nut by focusing the tension in-line. Looks great and easy to install. Make sure to loosen the strings and mark the screw holes and double check before drilling. Works very well and priced perfectly. The four string retainer fits best on a headstock that has two left and right tuners.

Fit perfectly on this old generic P-bass I’ve had for years. String spacing wasn’t an issue, didn’t have to excessively pull the strings. Just destined a bit and screwed it on. Finish is good. Not much else to say except it fits and works.
