Ordered this to help with splitting firewood and was pretty impressed. This splitter evens lets me split logs into 6ths or 8ths so I can use the firewood in my smoker. The steel seems pretty strong; after splitting several logs the blade was just as sharp as it was after getting it put together. The open top makes getting just about any log into it a snap and lets me rotate the log for its best splitting position. We were able to secure the splitter to a thicker log and it works like a charm. This splitter is a winner all regards; 5/5 stars!

Cut down a tree last fall and wanted to split the logs into pieces for firewood. This worked quite well, exceeding expectations!PROS:- Once screwed down into a stump, it is very stable- Durable and strong. Should last for many years if taken care of- Nice wood holder so can use on different sized/bigger logs than some of these splitters on the market- Produce nice small pieces as well as kindling sized pieces. Very useful!CONS:- Takes some ""getting used to"" to get the right swing with the sledge to drive the wood into the splitter. Not the same motion as using an axe/maul for example.- Wish the log holder was upward adjustable to allow for longer pieces
