Key Features
- Handy, pocket-sized tachometer
- Works with 2-, 3- and 4-blade propellers
- Simple, one-button operation
Overview
The Hangar 9® Micro Digital Tachometer is engineered using the latest technology. This handy tuning tool can measure the rpm of any engine equipped with a 2-, 3-, or 4-bladed propeller. RPM is displayed in up to four digits, with a range of up to 32,000 rpm. A long lasting 3V 220mAh lithium battery is included. The Micro Digital Tachometer’s auto shut-off feature prolongs battery life, and a low-battery icon indicates when the battery needs to be changed. It's also small enough to easily fit into your pocket.

I was reluctant to purchase because was looking for a device to read RPMs from inside my experimental aircraft. It matches my instrument RPM values precisely through the windscreen, which is about 4’ from my propeller.

I need an optical tach to verify my Garmin EFIS system that I installed in my Kitfox. For the price I was a bit skeptical but I'm here to say it worked perfectly and was very simple to use. The instructions say it has to be fairly close to the prop but I had no issues using it thru the windscreen which was probably 30 or so inches from the prop.

Hard to find a good tach for RC airplane engines. This is a quality, easy to use tachometer.

It works well but occasionally has trouble with displaying an accurate reading.

I bought this item to check the accuracy of,my mechanical tachometer in a Beechcraft Bonanza. It arrived within the dates Amazon delivery notes indicated.Upon opening the, box. I was somewhat disappointed, as I thought it was a toy.Not a true digital Tach I am accustomed. Such as Truetach II. So I borrowed a calibrated AST unit and checked, both against each other.I was pleasantly surprised to see it was just as accurate as the calibrated ATS unit. The only drawback is,due,to it's size, it will not stay on the, glareshield of the, airplane and there is no way of,reading the, number unless you tilt it which can give you wrong number. So you need a person to hold,it and, read it for, you. Now if the company come up with a bracket so it can be attached, and, then directed toward, the, propeller at the, correct angle, it will then earn a 10 star from me.Also,it goes,from.2 blade to.9 blades!! I have yet to see an 9 blade propeller aircraft. I didn't have to keep resetting the number of,blades, because mine has 2 blades and,it's the, first one when you turn the, unit on. Overall I recommend it

I got this to check the rpm of my long nosed Cherokee 6. Another reviewer said it worked on their airplane so I thought I'd get one and try it. It works fine thru the windscreen and several feet to a full sized prop on a sunny day.

Description doesn’t say for a Model aircraft. It has to be held quite close to the propeller for a reading. Fine for models, but not for real aircraft.
