About Harris Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth
Harris Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is composed of 100% ground freshwater DE, with no additives. The product is made of the naturally occuring fossilized remains of diatoms, a type of algae that forms in freshwater. These remains are ground up into a soft, fine white powder that carries many different uses. It's chemical free and completely safe to use around children and pets.
Harris Diatomaceous Earth is listed with the Organic Minerals Research Institute (OMRI) for organic use. It's packaged in a 1/2 lb puffer bottle that allows for easy application of a fine dusting of powder.
For every ten dollars in profit we receive for Diatomaceous Earth Food Grade, we have pledged to donate $1 to the Etowah Valley Humane Society (EVHS), a private non-profit organization that saves thousands of animals every year. Based in Cartersville, GA a short drive from the PF Harris manufacturing plant, EVHS aims to prevent cruelty, relieve suffering, and provide humane treatment for all animals in need. The organization actively works to eliminate root causes of suffering and acts as an educational resource for the community, with the main goal being to find a great home for animals in its custody. Below are a few of the impressive stats showing the impact EVHS has had on local animal lives in recent years:

Harris’ own Chief Financial Officer, Ed Brush, has been involved with the society for years. Seeing an opportunity to help a local organization doing so much good, PF Harris partnered with EVHS in an effort to combat animal cruelty and find deserving pets a loving home. Problem solving has a long heritage at PF Harris. In 1924, two years after its founding, the company tackled the Calvin Coolidge White House, which had been overrun for years by roaches and water bugs. Harris’s product was so successful in eliminating the scourge that he was described on the front page of the Washington Times as a "vermin slayer" who has just fought a decisive, winning battle with a horde of cockroaches which infested the lower regions of the Executive Mansion.
Over the course of the next few months Harris took “his final feast” to dozens of government buildings, including the Senate Office Building, the Department of Justice, the Supreme Court and Walter Reed Hospital. Had an issue with cockroaches when a previous roommate did not properly store their pets' food away and basically left the bags of food open in the garage. Unfortunately, when we started to see cockroaches near the garage it was already too late. The house was infested, bombing it was a temporary fix, but the cockroaches always came back after a few months. Preparing the house for fumigation was time-consuming due to the number of people and pets living here, and hiring a professional exterminator is too expensive for us.We researched more natural ways to keep the infestation at bay and found diatomaceous earth. It's food-grade, so if this was accidentally ingested it would be ok. You do have to be very careful though, because this powder is so fine and if we breathe it in, it is very harmful to our lungs and respiratory tract. We masked up and dusted the powder very lightly on areas where we knew the cockroaches appeared and where not a lot of people or pets would access often or for long. We sprayed a light mist of water to keep the powder from flying up into the air just in case. It took some time for the powder to show its effectiveness as we still were seeing cockroaches, but by the end of the month, we all suddenly thought that there weren't a lot of cockroach sightings as in previous months. Additionally, it did help with the large ant hills near our front door.We originally bought this as it was small and affordable to try, definitely a fraction of the cost compared to fumigating or calling a professional. If it didn't work we would at least be able to use this in our garden and say it was worth a try. Since it works, we will be buying more diatomaceous earth.Edit:It has been over half a year since we got this. Realistically, I will say this did not eliminate all cockroaches, unfortunately. However, it has been effective for our infestation with some patience and time. We were using this product almost daily for almost 3 months until it got to the point where we were only seeing a sighting of a cockroach once a month. After that, we would put more focus on the area where the cockroach was seen and use this product there.I hated to live in the house due to how disgusted I was with it, but now it is very livable. For those in dire situations with no possibility for a more permanent solution, this is still a highly effective temporary solution.

Used it to get rid of ants in my new house. Tried bug killer but they came back right away. Took about 3 days for this to get to the nest and finally kill them.

It was a good size for the price and the nozzle made application easy. It's safe and effective for pest control without being harmful to children or animals. As long as it stays dry it remains effective which makes this product a long-lasting measure against pests.

Food grade makes diatomaceous earth safe to eat and not be sick or poisoned. It is safe because it is food grade that's important to know. I use that inside the house and at my cat can roll in it and she likes to do that and then they fleece and whatever else don't live long on her. Takes 36 hours just a day and a half for them to turn over and die. This is a dehydrating product. Your hands if you touch it will get dry very dry if you touch it a lot. My cat itches because she rolls in it and I know I can just wipe her down she give her a relief. It is safe it's in the house and I will put it around the edges of the walls so that the children don't get into it as easily I don't have children of course but when I had it was safe and easy to use. There is a applicator available with a blue squeezy ball and a tube is great to use this and put down a thinner layer of it making it easier to get a tiny areas too I highly recommend it I enjoy having it around my house and outside my doorways you can put it in your yard it's safe I can't say it enough this is safe and it does kill the roaches bed bugs and whatever else you might have oh yes spidersThey're not biting me as often now that I have this in every room. Can use around pets to get rid of unwanted fleas, etc., and it's food grade so it's safe. If inside, best to put a little on a paper plate and dab with a dry paint brush and apply around room. Also, good for outside.

Although the bottle wasn’t full, I used product anyway! It’s been about a week! The roach activity in the kitchen has decreased. (I live in South Florida where roaches crawl around like ants and you have to use pesticides or something to control them). I have found what looked like dried up baby roaches. I will buy again, but from a different seller!

Bought new mattress. Came with bed bugs. Probably in-transit issue. Lightly dusted everything several times. Problem gone. Highly recommend.
