What's up with cell phone manufacturers removing the headphone jack, right? The paranoid among us know using Bluetooth is a potential security risk. The Audiophiles among us know there are limitations in the on-board analog audio and Bluetooth digital stream. Although this device does not have the quality of a several hundred euro/dollar DAC, it is good. I use it though AKG open back headphones,Bose closed-back earphones, and Sennheiser earbuds. It sounds good.First the audio: It works well with the USB input source. It worked with my Samsung phones and tablets. No hesitation, it was just like plugging in a headphone right into a jack. Worked just as well on my Windows desktop.In-line with the audio out (headphone) jack on the desktop and my tablet worked just as well. A definite improvement over simply plugging the headphones straight-in; more mid-range and base, a deeper sound stage, but maybe some narrowing. You can get even more bass with the enhanced bass equalizer setting. I can't say how long the battery lasts, though (more on that later). All in all, it is quite a functional DAC/adapter, no significant sound color, no static, hiss, or added noise. It is not as good as my desktop audio interface, but it's 5% of the price!Construction: Nice brushed and anodized aluminum case, Feels sturdy; if a bit heavy.Controls: Volume knob is silky; with a definite audible 'click' when you turn it on or off. On the 'front' with the volume control knob, there is a bass boost equalizer. On the back is an switch for high impedance headphones. You'll know if you're using high impedance headphones, and it's nice to have that feature. I found the slide switch on the back to be a little awkward, but you don't change it much unless you're changing headphones. The bass boos and impedance switch are tiny and a little award to use.BUT, be careful of running the battery all the way down. I may have left the unit on and completely drained the batter. Trying to use it from the totally discharged state was as if it stopped working. It wouldn't show the blinking charge light after totally exhausting the battery. Neither in-line or USB modes produced sound. Fortunately this was, within the warranted period. Amazon is replacied it with the same device. Did running the battery down damage it? Is it so heavy that it broke a conductor in the USB connector? Was it simply a production mortality issue? I have no idea why.I would still recommend the device. But I'd also recommend you seriously use the device during the initial 90 days to make sure it will provide you with a quality alternative to the missing headphone jack.

I recently changed from a FiiO A1 to this unit and I am impressed. The A1 is smaller and lighter. But it is dominated on every other dimension by this unit. This piece costs less, is more powerful, has a longer lasting battery, uses a USB-C cable for charging (the same as my phone). It's slightly larger size and weight are not problematic. I like the knob for on/off & volume control better than the buttons on the A1. I used the A1 for around 5 years, I hope this device lasts a similar period of time. The sound production has been the best improvement. I am running a Sony Walkman NWZ-A17 high-definition player. I play music, mostly symphonies and classic rock, in FLAC CD-quality tracks. My headphones are either a set of Sony cans or Audio-Technica ATH-ANC9 noise cancelling headphones (when traveling). The sound is clearly richer, more detailed, and warm. A far superior listening experience. Well done.

I was satisfied with the sound without the amplifier but I decided to try it anyway. Then I was OOC for 3 days and had nothing to do but isten to my music. I compared with and without amp. The difference was striking. Clarity of individual instruments was unusually good. Could tell easily where various instruments located in the orchestra. Excellent for classical organ and that says a lot. Wanamaker really wakes up. I use with Sensenheimer open back headphones- an outstanding combination. Well worth the price. Incidentally, I had none of the problems I had read about in the reviews except perhaps the bass switch location but it really was not a big problem at all.UPDATE: Device stopped working. Blue light does not come on.. Too bad- I liked the device

For what I was getting, my original thoughts were that it wouldn't be all that good. The sound is surprisingly good, the volume is decent. Plenty of bass. The volume is plenty loud enough. It pushes my headphones well. My headphones are only 80 ohms so nothing crazy for this thing even though its rated for 600. For the battery, I have a few caveats. I have no idea when it's going to die or when its fully charged. I use it for gaming when I'm at my desk and sometime I slip in my pocket for when I need it on the go. A few times I've been on the go with it and died sooner than I had hoped for. I do have the volume cranked on it sometimes too. Basically I keep it on the charger full time until I need to take it on the go. Side note, while its on the charger you can't tell by the audio quality. So no weird interference or anything like that while charging. All said, its decent for the price. I was looking for something to use with my DT 770 while gaming and this did that for me. I guess I will see how long it lasts.

Let me start by saying " I wish it could charge from my laptop while using." But I really don't mind. They say the battery last 12-15hours. I have not tested that claim because its a lot longer than I care about. If you are listening to headphones for that long... don't.This unit is solid built. For it's size 12-15 hours is incredible. Volume knob feels sturdy. The bass boost switch is a little too close to the headphone jack and volume knob but I am not needing the boost with my headphones. I certainly don't need to constantly switch bass boost between songs; you either need it or don't. The reason for purchasing this unit is because I have studio quality headphones that need the drive. (Beyerdynamic DT770 and DT990 Pro 250 ohm.)Using the USB out of my laptop sounds a lot better than using the 1/8" jack out. If you want quality sound you should not use the 1/8" jack, ever, with an external head amp.The sound quality gives my music a certain wonderful warmth and clean sound quality like I'm used to hearing. You shouldn't be doing this anyways BUT... don't use the 1/8" at the same time as using the USB jack. There will be a noise injected in the sound output.

This little thing is a BEAST! Paired with my Sennheiser HD650 300ohm headphones they get as loud as you want them to get, and then some. Preserves neutral sound, cannot hear any distortion at all. When being used as a DAC it supports up to 192khz/24bit. No EQ except a "BASS" option which honestly I never use, and a "GAIN" switch on the back; I didn't need to turn it on to drive 300ohms. Works well with my HD560 150ohm headphones as well.No audible interference so long as it's not being used while charging, battery life BETTER than advertised (lasts 13-14 hours for me), analog controls, and sleek black metal casing. Build quality feels premium and like it could last a long time. Seriously, this thing feels like it could survive being run over with a truck.Charges in 3-4 hours.Tested on Windows (USB-C, analog), MacOS (USB-C, Analog), iPadOS (USB-C) and iOS (analog). No app, no installations, it "just works."Gaming with these is awesome; using DTS it definitely gave me an advantage when playing FPS games. K/D went from 1.3 avg to 1.7 avg since I've had this device. It also seems to work in DAC mode with any old USB-C 2.0 cable, so you don't have to use the tiny cable that comes with the device. Paired with a 6ft usb-c cable, this thing basically adds a volume dial to my HD650 while being a pretty darn good DAC. To charge just plug it into a usb-A 5V power brick with the cable they provide you. The analog connection also seems to work flawlessly.I noticed most of the negative reviews were for the 300ohm version; I think that is an older model. The 600ohm amp/dac combo (the USB-C model) is a steal at 40 bucks. Don't waste money on an expensive DAC that does the same thing without a built-in battery; the tech is decades old, there's no reason for people to be buying 500 dollar usb-sticks when essentially the same chip is being used in $20 dollar dongles. It's snake oil. Google how the Apple USB-C to AUX 9$ dongle sounds the same if not better than these three and four figure devices. EQ with software and spend that money on better headphones instead.Only one thing more I could ask for: bluetooth, but at this price point I feel like as if I'm asking for just too much. Maybe they'll add it in their next iteration. Adding LDAC receiving capability is an obvious next step.

EDIT -- I wasn't thinking when I started to use this amp. I didn't realize that it was solely battery powered. It seems the amp had just died when I had it plugged into my PC. This amp is honestly a great buy for the cost. My deepest apologies to the manufacturers for my premature review. For what I paid, I'm very impressed with the quality of this amp.My amp came today around 2 pm and its already fried by midnight. It sounded pretty good which honestly was pretty shocking for something so inexpensive but I found out exactly why like 10 minutes ago. It just turns right off and im not sure why - maybe a battery defect but now it'll stay on for about 1-2 minutes and turn back off. Just save the cash and go buy a better amp for like a hundred bucks. Complete waste taking a chance on this.

this is supposed to be a hifi filter for clean, analog sound. It does no noise filtering, it buzzes and humms, the right channel drops out, the box was opened before it was delivered, and was not in an amazon box, and had no padding. the unit did power on, but boy did it disappoint me. I am actually angry because only in a retail model of online purchase then ship, could I ever be fooled into buying this piece of junk~! I feel tricked and lied to. it feels like this site is no better than craigslist. just, ooh, so mad!
