The unique design of the Heifetz mute allows the player to adjust the muting effect by sliding the metal tension clip down or up, muting more or less as a result. The metal tension clip is the part that is stamped "HEIFETZ". Made of the highest quality materials, many professionals swear by this unique mute. The original Heifetz mute was very similar, but with a slightly different design. What Should I Look For in a Mute? All string players should have at least one mute, and there are three important factors to consider. First and foremost, ease of use. How quickly can the mute be put in place or removed? How important is this to you? Orchestral players sometimes only have one measure to install or remove a mute. Secondly, sound quality. The goal of the mute is to lower the volume only, not dampen the good quality of your instrument. Regarding overall sound quality, the degree to which a mute "rattles" when not in use but still on the strings between the bridge and tailpiece is important as well. Third is aesthetics. Truth be told, many players consider the importance of overall look and feel, trying a variety of mutes to find out what works and looks best on their instrument. Fortunately, mutes are not too expensive, so this is a relatively low cost endeavor.

I have tested few different mutes (both cheaper and more expensive) and I found this one the best.It provides good sound both for violin and viola. It is sitting very stable on the bridge and you have change the color of your sound by varying a bit the depth, place and the angle of the mute on your bridge.

When I use a mute while playing I need something that will stay in place. I've have had many mutes over the last 50+ years of playing and the Heifetz mute - even the new version like this one - seems to always work the best for me. I had an original Heifetz mute but unfortunately lost it. So, for those violinists who needs a good solid mute this is a great recommendation!

I guess it's just a matter of preference. Prefer other mutes available. There is nothing wrong with the quality of this mute.

The name Heifetz is synonymous with one of the greatest violinist of the last century. Look up some a video or listen to one of his performances and you'll know why. This mute that bears his name does not live up to the expectation. Here's why: It did mute the sound somewhat but not sweetly, instead of just reducing the volume by attenuating the sound vibrations from the strings through the bridge, it gave the violin a nasally tone and left a black mark from the rubber on the bridge.

It is the best mute I have ever had in my life. I have used many others but this one does keep the sound and keep the vibrant overtones, it’s just beautiful!Recently, I had a few concerts and I needed to use a mute, so I use the Heifetz mute and everyone noticed the amazing sound. Strongly recommend everyone of my friends including my colleagues musicians to buy this one.

Awesome mute, It's mostly aimed at changing the tone of the instrument rather than lowering volume, I didn't have a problem with marking the bridge or difficulty putting it on, just adjust the metal clip and it'll go as far as you move it, don't try to shove it onto the bridge which is what i think most people are getting their problems from, if you want to simply take off the clip completely, no problem there either, just a great mute for solo performance specifically

Easy to adjust and use. Perfect for a professional, or anyone else, for that matter. It's not often you use a mute in classical music but this is perfect for that purpose.

A little unhandy to use while playing. Hard to put on.
