About this item

  • Made of high speed steel
  • Continuous pilot counterbores cut rapidly, smoothly and accurately, producing long spiraling chips rather than small metal particles
  • The pilot extends the full length of the flute portion of the tool
  • As cutter flutes are ground back due to wear, a new section of pilot becomes exposed
  • The pilot head may be cut off to any desired length when repeated sharpening makes it too long for practical use; Continuous pilot counterbores have a life many times that of the conventional type counterbore

I should have looked closer to the length. in the short description it says 801.I knew it wasn't going to be 31" long, but it didn't think it would be less than 3"in the first place I don't know what the heck is going on in the world. When you order an ANSI counterbore they will be 4"-8" , depending on the diameter.Metric counterbores are almost always 1/2-2/3 the length. This tool by the time I chuck it in a collet I have 1.75" reach. useless another tool to lay in the drawer.

Drilled about 25 M6 counterbores in 3/4" aluminum plate, some of which was 6061 and some was cast tooling plate. I used WD40 as lubricant and it worked great. It seemed to cut the 6061 a little bit easier than the cast aluminum. Maybe the cast alu is gummier, I am not sure. But it worked okay with both. The M6 counterbore was definitely at the limit of what my drill press could handle. I have a tiny Grizzly 8" 1/3hp drill press. It did all the counterbores but got pretty hot, and sometimes near the bottom of the counterbore the belt would start slipping. I definitely was pushing it to the limit and I doubt it could handle any larger counterbore than M6 in aluminum. Overall good tool for the price.
