I have used center punches for years when drilling in metal but its always been an approximate center when punching a small surface. I recently needed to drill out some small pins where being off center could damage the surrounding material. This tool gave me a magnified view of the pin with cross hairs so I could ensure true center. The only limit to accuracy seems to be the steadiness of my hand in holding the base; when the object on which it rests is flat and larger than the base, it is easy, but when smaller and curved, it is more challenging and may turn into a two person job so one person can hold the base with two hands while another strikes the punch with a hammer. In either case, it is an excellent tool and I wish I had one sooner.

Useful tool to add to your toolbox if you want to drill accurate holes in sheet material. It’s very simple to use and well made.Good value when purchased via Amazon when compared with buying from a tool shop

Aside from the 3 month wait as it did come from India and that when it arrived in the states and customs did open its packaging, which is understandableIt is one of my prized tools with excellent pinpoint accuracy and would highly recommend this tool to craftsman who desire accuracy

Not a machinist nor a millwright but I have a drill. Played with this to see if I was any good. Perfect center punch. I have a set of excellent center punches. Hinderer locktite handle nuts required me drilling them out, 3 of them. Very carefully, as a $400 knife warrants. I was close on 1, and surprised how far off I was on the other 2. Went ahead a drilled them out and managed not to damage the knife. Decided an optical punch would be worth the investment should I ever face exacting center punching again. First time using/trying I nailed the center absolutely perfect with this optical center punch, both tries. Once is luck, twice is skill. Just a hammer tap, then it is easy to go with studier center punch and strike harder. Does not take up much space in tool chest, certainly worthy of the space for my uses.

Not sure why they drilled both holes all the way through. If they only drilled one through, the other partial hole could be used to store the other half of the tool. But now it's just a hole for nothing. It's like the intent was there, but the the brain wasn't fully awake during the execution stage. Either that, or I'm an idiot and missed the purpose.

通常のセンターポンチやオートポンチに比べてどうしても手間も時間も掛かりますが、精度良くマーキングしたいときはやはり工学ポンチが優れているというのは体験済みでした。今回、もう一つ追加が必要になったのですが、以前購入したメーカーの物は日本国内からは購入するすべが無くなってしまったようで困っていたところ、こちらの製品があったという事で購入しました。ということで従来から使っている光学式センターポンチと比べてという視点になってしまうのですが。残念なのは、HHIP 8600-4120 光学パンチセットの位置決め用の透明な棒に刻まれているクロスゲージが完全にはセンターには無いようで、棒を回転させると動くのが見えてしまいます。これについては実質的には問題ないレベルなのですが、方向を一定にするようにして使っています。もう一つがポンチも同一の台に乗っているために、底面積が広く小さい物の上にマーキングする際には若干使い難いのですが、通常は逆にポンチそのものが近くにある状態なので作業しやすいと感じました。
