The Hipshot 4 String Supertone Bass Bridge is a chrome-plated bridge designed for bass guitars. It allows for adjusting string height, intonation, and side-to-side string spacing. According to customers, it improves tone and makes adjustments easier.

I recently bought a short scale Epiphone EB-0 to get something close to the bass sound of '60s British rock bassists like Jack Bruce (with Cream) and Glenn Cornick (with Jethro Tull). They actually played the Gibson EB-3, but the current EB-3 model is long scale (the classic EB-3 was short scale) and is different from the classic EB-3 in other ways as well. The EB-0 seemed like a nice way to approximate that '60s sound without spending too much. (The other modern alternative, the Gibson SG Standard bass, costs five times as much as the EB-0!)The EB-0 is a remarkably good bass for the money, but its bridge, like most Gibson bass bridges, is poorly designed. Not only does it fall off when the strings are removed, but it allows so little space from the ball end of the string to the bridge saddle that each string's wrapping thread ends up resting on the saddle, which tends to deaden your tone. The Hipshot bridge is a tremendous improvement in every way. It is easy to install, and fastens tightly to the guitar's body (using the original bridge's screw holes -- no need to drill new ones!). It adds about 3/4" to the space between the ball and the saddle, allowing enough room for the wrapping thread to clear the saddle. Each saddle is fully adjustable. The bridge comes with four screws (you only need two, but American-made Gibsons and foreign-made Epiphones use different threading, so they include both types) and a tiny Allen wrench for adjusting the saddles. You will also need a 3/16" Allen wrench to attach the bridge to your bass (it wasn't included in my package, at least).Mounting the bridge is so easy they don't bother providing an instruction sheet. You just remove the original bridge and the three screws that it rests against, then put the Hipshot bridge in position and fix it in place with two of the provided screws. If your experience is like mine, two of the four screws will start to screw in, but then resist. Don't force them -- just use the other two. Once you know which two screws fit, screw them all the way down until they are tight. Then put strings on and use the tiny Allen wrench to adjust the bridge for action and intonation.I am very pleased with the Hipshot Supertone bridge and recommend it to everyone who plays a Gibson or Epiphone bass with the 3-point bridge. (Hipshot also makes a replacement for the older Gibson 2-point bridge, but I haven't used that one.)[EDIT 2014: I have since upgraded to a Gibson SG bass -- very similar to the EB-0, but better made, with a set neck and a bridge pickup. Since the HipShot bridge came with screws for both Gibson and Epiphone guitars, I was easily able to move the bridge over to the Gibson.]

I have a custom John Forbus, Les Paul style bass and its one of the best I own. The problem i had was the 3 point bridge was replace with a different style, since the 3 point bridges are not that great. The look and function of the replaced bridge was OK, but definitely needed to be replaced. Was very easy to install, great value for the money, did not change sound quality and actual might have improved just a little. After a quick set up, have no issues with notes, harmonics, depth, sound, fretting, buzzing or anything. Very happy with how it looks and completes the bass.

I installed the bridge on a Vintage VS4 reissue this made a huge difference. The sound impact was amazing and I was able to easily dial in my low string height. Intonation was super easy to set. Fantastic bridge.

This bridge does an excellent job of thickening up your sound and making string adjustments a breeze.I set up all my own instruments, and one of my biggest pet peeves is instruments that are difficult to adjust. Rickenbacker is by far the worst offender, but the stock EB3/EB0 bridge isn't a whole lot better. This was exactly what I needed. As with most Hipshot bridges, this thing is highly adjustable in all directions. String spacing, individual string height, and intonation can all be taken care of while the instrument is strung up to allow for a really quick and accurate process. On top of that, its sheer mass (if you get the brass version, can't speak for aluminum) gives you a slightly warmer tone and an incredible amount of sustain. This is exactly what I was looking for, but bear this in mind if you want a more snappy trebly sound. Brass probably isn't ideal for that.Installation is quick and easy, but a very tight fit. This is good, as it means you won't have any rattles or inconsistencies due to the bridge shifting. Just be ready to fuss with the alignment for a minute when you're driving in the retention screws. The only trouble I had were the two sets of screws. They are *slightly* different threads (I assume one is for Gibson and the other is for Epiphone), but they're so close that you can't tell easily. When installing, take a moment before you put the bridge on to figure out which ones you need before you try to torque it in and destroy the threads. That would be a pain to fix.

Simple to put on and this makes a difference. So much better than the 3 point bridge. You owe it to yourself!

I love my Epiphone Jack Casady bass. I've used it on a bunch of recordings and in venues all over the country. It rocks.I bought the bridge because I wanted to have a little more adjustability then the normal bridge. It is infinitely more adjustable and stays put during string changes, but it also sounds great. It made the whole bass sound like it's being compressed in the best possible way. Every note is a little clearer and has a little more weight.I put a little piece of rubber underneath each side of the bridge to compensate for the carved top of the Epiphone JC bass. Installation took all of 15 minutes (including height and intonation adjustment).Hipshot makes awesome stuff.Boom.

Got this to replace the weak bridge on my Epi EB3. Fit perfect right out of the box. Installation was a breeze. Very minor adjustment after installation for action/intonation. Tone is better - notes clearer and more sustain. Looks great as it's more massive than the original. Also, extra weight helps with neck dive issue it had before. If you have an Epi/Gibson EB3 or Thunderbird this is a perfect replacement bridge that will bring you better tone/stability and great looks.
