Bought to replace an old Hopkins breakaway unit battery on a gooseneck trailer and the 44" (as opposed to 7") eliminates the need to splice additional wire length.Since the whole kit cost is little more than just the replacement battery and has the test and indicator features, I replaced the entire system. Because my trailer wiring didn't have the aux 12V connected to the vehicle power, the old one was a pain to determine if the battery was charged. After I provided a connection to the aux power source, I now can tell whether the unit is charging or not.Very happy with this one. The old breakaway switch took a lot of force to activate. The new one requires about 5 pounds and is much easier to check out.

I never write reviews on products or merchandise but I am writing a few because of good products. This Hopkins I purchased through Amazon works perfect. I don't know about how long it will last but I do know it works very well. My point on products purchased through Amazon is the fact if you order the right product for your application and you follow the directions you cant go wrong. I read reviews on products from Amazon all the time and all I see is where people don't read the directions right or order the wrong item. This Hopkins breakaway has simple instructions anyone can follow. If you get it wrong you only have you to blame.Love Amazons fast shipping and have never had a problem with anything I have ever purchased.

The is an outstanding product. You get the battery box, battery, and the breakaway switch with a 44 inch cable. The push button check is a great feature. There is not "charger" - the description should just say "battery charges when attached to tow vehicle with power wire to trailer". I have had one of these for three years and it still works perfectly. I bought this second one for a second trailer. The price is better than I can get locally. Buy this, you will be very happy with it.

This worked great when I first got it. However it has no protection from some stranger walking by and pushing the button and blowing the fuse as mine did. Now I have to repair a brand new item because of manufacturer silliness.

Kit are great and easy to install. directions are clear and easy to understand and installs completely in about an hour. Get yourself a quality cobalt bit to drill through the trailer frame and stop by your local hardware for some stainless fasteners. The self drill screws don't handle heavy steel very well. I broke the tips off before I was able to drill through frame, so switch to cobalt drill bit and was finished before you know it. Kit is complete and comes with electrical in-line splice connectors. can't go wrong getting these from Amazon!

Terrible product! Not durable at all!! Had the product for about three months but only installed for one month. Was about to make its debut trip, and.... nothing on the test window! Connect it to vehicle power... still nothing. Hit the test button.... nothing. Remove the cover, AND... the actual test button behind the cover button had broken off completely! It hadn’t even made ONE trip down the road yet!!!! I tested power at the terminals, and even connected to vehicle power, there was nothing on the multimeter. Since everything runs through that little circuit board in the housing, I’m assuming the board is bad. And since it took me a couple of months to get around to installing it, the return window has passed. TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY.

I have a 10 ton rated trailer and I installed one of these on it a year ago. Outstanding product! Easily handles the needs of a trailer this heavy duty! I believe in getting my moneys worth and every bit of what a 10 ton rated trailer is supposed to do! You can count on this product with confidence! I have bought 2 more for equipping other trailers since I put the first one on! No worries!

I like this unit. I recently rewired my trailer and added this unit at that time. I have tested it, and it seems to be working fine.I have one problem though. An amber light is supposed to illuminate when the trailer is plugged into the tow vehicle. The light indicates that the battery is being charged by the vehicle. Well, I wired the unit exactly as the instructions specified, but im not getting the Amber light. However, there is also a button you can press to tell you the charge level of the battery. I have towed the trailer for about 2 weeks now, and when I push the button, it still says it's fully charged. So, in not sure if it's charging or not.
