We were looking for the best Ice Machine for our Country Home in the mountains of El Valle de Anton in Panamá. In Amazon there are some that cost 200-600 dollars and then there are the Scotsman’s and Hochizakis. We wanted something that fabricated a large clear ice and that was durable and Serviciable with availability to support in years to come. The machine is pricey like 2K plus filter. I was lucky that my sewage was lower than the drain and didn’t have tos use the pump which I bought anyway. I think I’m going to need it because I’m buying another one for my city apartment. The machine makes great ice. The noise is acceptable. It is installed in the kitchen. Now I drink coke and it produces little foam as compared to the dry noisy cubes from the fridge. Simply love it.

Purchased 7/2020 and now have no ice. Probably the bin sensor, but haven’t had it checked out yet. Frustrating since my beverage of choice is ice water

We’ve had our unit for four or five years now. It’s on a covered porch where it is exposed to temps from sub freezing to 100 degrees. With just a little prep seasonally, it has survived and continues to perform beautifully. Makes terrific top hat ice, makes the ice fast even in hot weather, and works very dependably. We’ve had other ice makers, but none have been as dependable and made such good ice as our Hoshizaki! Be aware that it is not the quietest unit out there, but it more than makes up for that in all other ways.

So I enjoy the ice maker. Unfortunately the bin sensor is out. The Icemaker thinks the ice bin is full and doesn’t make ice until it’s replaced. Huge pain as finding the correct Plummer to change this out. Apparently a whole batch of faulty bin sensors are out in circulation. So this is a known problem that wasn’t known to me. I look forward to hopefully many years of Ice without any further issues.

In times past ice makers installed in residences had a one-year warranty. The same model installed in commercial service had a two-year warranty. The reason is that residential users ignore the service requirement (every six months) even though they typically use less ice than commercial applications. Typically, a business not only purchases the ice maker, they also buy a service contract whereby a service company employs knowledgeable technicians who know the service intervals and how the service is conducted. Scale is but one thing that requires attention. For reasons I don't know slime will always grow on the interior. Professionals not only clean the interior they use products that retard the growth of new slime. Restaurants are wary of “slime in the ice machine” prior to municipal food inspection. They likely have more than one machine and having professionals do the work avoids problems and the likelihood that you will find yourself on the consumer segment of your local TV station. If you are planning a new installation, it will be far better to install a gravity drain during construction. Relying on a pump is expensive and it has only a one year warranty. The pumps themselves are not repairable, are replaced as a unit and can be noisy. The repair cost can easily exceed $500 which should be more than having the drain installed to begin with. The Hoshizaki handle on the stainless versions is easily removed and the attachment hardware is not easily seen. My kitchen originally had the same brand of appliances with matching handles. I removed the handle from the failed icemaker and installed it on the new Hoshizaki. I’ve maintained the same “look” and no one is the wiser.I haven’t addressed ice quality and quantity as it performs exactly as the brochure describes.Be careful from who you purchase your machine. You may find local prices are very close to online prices and they can offer advice on installation, third party warranties and service contracts.
