I'm no plumber - just to be clear. Kitchen sink suddenly stopped draining. I figured it was a clog. Tried Drain-O, no luck. Tried a drain snake, no luck. Tried a much longer drain snake, no luck. At that point I assumed the clog was too far to reach with consumer-grade tools, and I called a plumber. This young kid shows up and VERY FIRST THING he looked for was this vent device which I never even knew was there. He unscrewed it and woosh the sink drained! Apparently the valve wears out and stops working, and when that happens, it's like when you hold your finger on the end of a straw - the liquid stays in the straw until you let go. anyway, this kid was awesome, he showed me what kind to get on Amazon. This is an exact replacement for the one that wore out. All is well. Thank you plumber-kid, and thank you Amazon!UPDATE - after only 6 months, this valve has stopped working. I'm not implying this is typical of this brand - maybe this one has a defect, IDK. The prior one (same exact model) lasted 4 years. But anyway I'm just passing along my experience. I am going to try another brand REDI-VENT and see how it goes. It's more expensive but if it lasts longer I'm fine with the price difference.

Easy to install, fits perfectly and works great!Price is super, as these would cost a lot more in the hardware store. Definitely recommend!

I've bought it to replace the old one (still working) and used the new one just once: it's as noisy as airplane engine is.I would not recommend. Look for something less noisy.
