This product is really well made & very helpful for my situation. It heats up more than 5 gallons of cold water in about 10 mins to about 100 degrees. It does take a lot of power to run. You do need to follow all instructions for safety.

I plugged it in at 10am after checking the temperature of the water. I went to check the temperature of the water 30 minutes later. The water was colder. I made sure it was on and it was. I left it 30 minutes again. The temperature went back to what it originally was. I was excited and expected it to warm up the pool. Long story short, The temp of the pool never rose above 79.5 according to the thermostat that came with it. The water felt colder than what I would think 79 degree water would be. Maybe the thermostat isn’t working properly. Idk. I’m considering returning it. I have an above ground pool 12ftX30X30

I was looking for a simple heater to melt the ice on the rare occasions when our 10-gallon bird bath freezes. The instructions in the booklet warn you in so many different ways that had I seen them BEFORE making the purchase I would have made a different choice. Among many other cautions, the instructions warn the user not to touch the water with their hands. Ominous. I am the only person it could possibly harm so I decided to give it a try. After the third time I connected it to an electrical outlet it began tripped the ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI).GFCI protected outlets are a safety feature required by electrical code for outlets in damp/wet areas and if within reach of a kitchen/bathroom/laundry room area where the user may get zapped if they touch the electrical device and a metal water faucet or other potential path to earth-ground. They are the type outlets that have a TEST and a RESET button on its faceplate. Simply stated, they save lives when/if electricity leaks from an electrical appliance and passes through the owner's body to ground.I did some simple electrical measurements before sending it back. The device has a three-prong plug which SHOULD provide a safety ground if/when it leaks electrical current. That third prong is just for show.. Other measurements I made told me that the device definitely leaks electricity into the water it is supposed to only be heating.The current leaked that I measured were PROBABLY NOT enough to electrocute a healthy adult, but definitely enough to get ones attention. Combine that to the fire hazards they predict if the heater were to accidentally be left on and not completely under water for any reason. So if you escape electrocution you still might burn your home to the ground.

This boils water quickly. I got some great use out of this heater until it malfunctioned several months later. I reached out to the company for help. They responded promptly and sent me a free replacement! This type of service is rare now a days. I do recommend this product along with the seller.

Worked well when it did but lasted less than a year.

Perhaps the most significant thing to note, is that the current draw was 14.2 Amps at 120 volts, which is 1,700 watts, and NOT the 1,500 watts as stated. I have 20 amp circuits, so this was no problem for me, and obviously the water heats 200 watts ‘faster’. There are no UL or CE markings or seals to be found, which is decidedly not reassuring.The body and coil are indeed made of the appropriate stainless steel (non-magnetic).The top of the wire connections are potted in a hard epoxy (yes, I took the top off and looked), so it can indeed be fully submerged. Avoid flexing the wire where it goes in the top if you wish to keep it sealed long term. I added a long strain relief to keep the connection (from the flexible cord to the electronics) from becoming compromised. Of course, if it does become compromised and leaks into the 120 volt line connection, the water would become electrically charged. If you have a GFCI you can plug it into, your level of safety will increase dramatically.The element must be IN the water before plugging it in, and it should be left in the water for about a minute after unplugging it so that the (very hot) heating element can equalize with the water in the bucket, which should extend the life of the heater.There is a small hole in the bottom of the upper housing so that water that enters the top of the unit can drain out.I verified that it indeed does have a thermostat (the sensor is located at the bottom of the black top), which must be in contact with the water to function. It initially cut the heater off at 73c/163°f. It then cut off until the temperature dropped to 62.5c/145°f. It then maintained the temperature at 145°, cutting on and off at a differential of just a degree or so (so roughly maintaining the temp between 143° and 145°f).The included thermometer reads Celsius and cannot be set to read in Fahrenheit (I opened it up and looked, there is no way to change it internally either). Put the scouring pad (inexplicably included) in your kitchen, because it has no purpose regarding the heater.As far as long term durability - that remains to be seen. All the signs are there for it to be functional for a long time if treated correctly. I suspect that the thermostat portion will fail before the heating element, which is nothing more than a ‘shorted’ section of NiChrome wire (as are all other electric heating elements).I tested to see how long the heater would take to heat a 5 gallon bucket that was comfortably full (3.75 gallons), and at what temperature it would maintain the water.The heater was hung in the middle of the bucket and the water was gently stirred with a wooden paint stick frequently, and prior to every reading.The results are as follows:Starting temp of water = 70°10 minutes = 39c/104°f20 minutes = 55c/131°25 minutes = 62c/144°30 minutes = 69c/156°32 minutes = 73c/163° at initial thermostat cutoff pointThe heater cut back on at 62c/145° and then maintained that temperature closely.

The first time I tested it. I put the thermometer that came with it in the water but my thermometer was at the top and of course the heaters at the bottom. I left it on for about a half hour and I came back in and it still says it was only 72 but once I started stirring the water around it jumped up over a hundred and some degrees.It will boil water if you want it to.I'm more than happy with it. And now that summer is here. I'm going to be using it to warm the inflatable pool water.

It worked well for a few days then I could not plug it in without the breaker tripping. There was nothing else on the circuit. I had followed the user instructions to the letter. Now it is useless.
