This thermostat is a necessary addition to a freshwater or saltwater aquarium. As other reviewers have noted, traditional aquarium heater thermostats are 1) in the water, 2) take time to set properly, esp. without clear markings, and 3) are prone to failure due to incremental overheating of the rubber stopper during water changes, and subsequent water leakage into the heater. This happened to me, and the temperature calibration was thrown off over the years. I had the heater set to the minimum 68 and it was still heating the water to about 83° in my cichlid tank. Even though I had a thermometer, it seemed to me that the temperature was still manageable, especially for my prize fish. However, I underestimated the difference a few degrees can make in a planted tank. The increase caused some of my plants to melt and some cooler-water fish to die off. I decided to take back control of the temperature in my cichlid tank.I am now using a different heater that is set a little higher to about 80°, and the thermostat from InkBird. The thermostat is set to 78°, and it keeps the temperature to within half a degree, with a satisfying click during on/off operation. This will be better if you don't use a big heater, and can be adjusted by manipulating the position of the probe v. the heater. Now, I did use a calibrated scientific thermometer to check the accuracy of the thermostat and the included stainless steel probe. It was within 1°, and the thermostat provides you with an option to calibrate it accordingly. The settings can be slightly confusing, but after you study the instruction manual, you will get the hang of it. I used a rubber suction cup and a bag tie to fix the steel probe inside the aquarium, as you can see in the picture (in back, on left).Overall, I am very satisfied with this thermostat, and I enjoy the peace of mind that comes with precise temperature control even in the case of another heater near-failure. My plants and fish have already started to bounce back. The difference is incredible. Don't leave your tank at the mercy of your heater's thermostat.

Just bought it to ferment yogurt in an old fashioned (not digital) crock pot. Easy as pie! OK it's actually quite a pain to make a pie crust but once you figured out how to use this thing it's quite simple. The control is not intuitive so you need to read the manual for the first time. What I don't like about this device is that the display when showing alphabet often does not represent the alphabet (unless my particular device is defective? but all else is working well). For example the letter T is displayed as an upside down F. When I enter the values I have compare the menu code carefully with the manual listing, because I cannot easily figure out what they are by looking at the display. If you delay a bit when inputting the values the thing resets back to previous values and you have to start the whole setting process all over again. This is why I am taking off one star. I haven't even used the timing feature yet, because to do so will require me to enter more values and it's quite painful due to the above reason. Luckily I haven't had the need to use the timing feature yet. I have no trouble understanding the manual instructions though.Overall it's a very useful device and works well in terms of controlling temperature within range. My yogurt turns out rich and creamy and just right. I set my temp at 115 degrees F. Plug my crock pot in and set it to "warm", and 8 hours later it's done! The pot will be turned on when the temp dips to 113 and will stop when reaching 115. The pot may continue to heat up to a degree or 2 above because the heating element cannot cool down immediately, but as long as the temp is lower than 120 the bacteria will thrive.I am going to buy the long probe selling at Amazon here instead of using the short probe that comes with the device. For my yogurt purpose the short probe is not ideal. You have to be careful not to get the rubber part immersed in the liquid but still ensure most of the metal part is well in the milk/yogurt.A quick note about the milk-pasteurization portion of the yogurt making process: I also did it in my crock pot, but I used a digital thermometer with an alarm feature. I set the pot to "high" and it will heat the milk up in an hour or two (didn't time it). The gentle heat of the slow cook ensures that milk will not overflow, burn or form a hard deposit on the pot so when it comes to cleaning it will be very easy. My slow cooker is a cheap Hamilton Beech 3 qt one. It's good for half gallon capacity but if you need to make a gallon at a time you will need a 5-6 qt pot.

I used this temperature controller in our chicken coop for the winter. It worked great and had a tremendous temperature range of -58 to 210 degrees F. I would suggest, however, to NOT lose your user guide. If you aren't changing the control settings very often, you may forget how to set it up. There are several menu codes encountered in the setup and you may need reminded of what each of them means. Also, there is a lot of useful information in the guide.Customer Service was very impressive. My controller became nonresponsive after a few short months. I emailed customer service on a Monday and received a response that night from Cassie. She requested my home address and phone number so they could send me another controller. After giving her that information on Tuesday, I was told to expect to receive it by the following Monday. It actually arrived just two days later on Thursday. A VERY impressive three days to have a new temperature controller in hand.

I bought this product to help regulate the temperature in my hedgehog's cage. I already had one but there but there are several reasons I like this one better. The first being that the display on this one is digital. My other one (pictured) had a dial, which worked but I like setting a specific temp. Second, this displays the current temperature as well. My other didn't so I had to have an additional probe to tell me the current temp. It was easy to set up and the cords on this are thicker and seem more sturdy. I would definitely recommend this.

I use this for my heat Matt with my ball python and Brazilian rainbow boa. It works great but I did later find one without the cooling option that is a lot cheaper that I'd buy in the future! I have no complaints as I use it without plugging anything into the cooling plug and it works fine 😊

Took a bit to program and need to set the temperature 10° higher than needed but that could just be my rack.

The product works as specified, I have no complaints there. The only thing is that the unit makes a low buzzing sound. It's not too loud, but since I use the unit in my living room, it can get annoying to constantly hear this low buzzing.

Programming takes a bit of reading of the instructions to understand but once you have it, it's straightforward. Does what it is supposed to, varying temperature day/night
