I have a lot of mature trees, and I heat my house with wood. I found myself with too many large logs to split manually. The Overton is not what a professional would use, but it works very well for most logs, even larger than the rated 10 inch diameter. Lifting 100 pound logs is still work, but splitting wood is my summer and fall exercise when I'm not in the gym, and splitting a ten or fifteen inch log by hand takes too much time. I'm very happy with this splitter. You won't do better for under $1000, I believe.

I am very pleased with the splitting ability of the item. The problem is that when I pulled it it of the box, one of the plastic wheels was cracked. I don't understand why the company would put such cheap plastic wheels on something so heavy. I have asked the company for a replacement wheel. It looks like a fairly easy fix, but I am being told that a replacement is not possible, and now the entire unit needs to be returned. That makes no sense.

Very heavy unit doesn't handle large dense white oak logs or knots very well I use it in concert with a manual log splitter for larger pieces that are 10 in. diameter
