We replaced a 10+ year old version of this same controller with a new version. The installation was super simple and it works great. I only hope that it also lasts for 10+ years, even in the extreme heat of Phoenix.

Ours lasted 9 years in Phoenix. It got direct sun all day (not my choice of install locations). Easy to program as well. Feels well made

I had a Hardee Irrigation unit that was not working well; the LCD was not showing characters properly, all the switches were stiff, and the manual "ON" button was stuck.The replacement Irritrol RD600-EXT-R Rain Dial unit is a pretty exact replacement. The box size is identical; the mounting screw locations are a 1:1 match, so no new holes in the wall are needed.Pro: Exact match, no new learning curve. The physical box size and layout is the same as the Hardee unit, and it does the job. The electrical control board has changed, but I had enough slack in existing wiring to make things fit.Con: The fit/finish on the new unit is lacking. The control portion casing has a gap on the top; the label on the face does not line up with the switch positions. For example, moving the switch one click to the right, the pointer is sitting on the label between position 1 & 2 — same thing for other positions on the face of the unit. Also, the RD600 external case, the plastic feels less rigid and thinner compared to the Hardee unit. The "Rain Dial" label on the front of the box was not well aligned and had a bubble where the label was not sticking to the exterior case.Installation of the wiring took longer than expected as the transformer is a different style than the previous unit; the transformer has an electrical nipple extending downwards through the external case. I needed to flip the transformer 180 degrees vertically to make the electrical connections to the incoming AC wires. Re-fitting the plastic frame around the inside of the box took forever as the rotated transformer now kept things from fitting together. Finally managed to get all the clips to snap into place, but the bottom right corner still sticks out 1/8". I can close the outside lid, so things should be weather resistant. Just be aware in case you need to make the electrical connection the same way.

The display of information on Amazon (I expect precise specs) did not tell that it is not compatible with European electricity. I had to get this information from the Irritrol customer service hotline.So I had to resend. The respective process was perfect and quick.
