I only use Erwin bits. Long lasting and good price. I do NOT like the bits with the screw tip that Erwin makes and most other brands as well. It just sucks the tip of the bit into the wood too much. When accuracy is a must use these without the screw tip.

I needed bits the leave a flattened surface to inset washers and nuts. Other styles leave a cone or raised mound due to the shape of the wings.

Been having a problem buying spade bits at the big box stores lately. They all have a twist-drill tip at the end, and I imagine some people do like them, but I've found they're too aggressive. I've almost ruined some stuff in finish carpentry with them ( stairs ,etc.)These Irwin bits have the standard tip, like I'm used to, and they work great.
