1. Edge Degree
A cut is created when two edges collide.
The smoothness of the cut, or sharpness, comes from the angle degree¹ (slope) of each edge².
The lower the angle, the sharper the blade edge.
Each Guggenhein blade is meticulously sharpened (using special machinery) to an incredibly low 11 - 15 degree angle³.

This level of sharpness creates an extraordinarily smooth cut.
2. Steel Quality
A sharp blade edge that does not consist of high quality steel, will dull quickly.
Steel quality is measured by how hard, or concentrated the steel is using the Rockwell Hardness Scale (HRC).
How far⁴ or close⁵ the steel particles⁶ are to each other determines quality/hardness.
A Guggenhein consists of a special steel that has superior hardness, scoring just below 60 HRC.
This hardness creates a strong foundation that allows the sharp edge to last.
3. LEVERAGE
You now have an extremely sharp edge and an incredibly hard steel to make that edge last,
the third and final component that completes Tri-Sharp is leverage⁷.
A Guggenhein's bolt (axis), is strategically placed (just past the half way point of the shears.)
This, combined with an additional weight added to the front half of the shears,
creates powerful leverage that further enhances an already smooth cut while taking pressure off your wrists.

Cuts through the thick material like butter. Serious sewers should have. Very nice quality, money well spent, fit and grip makes ease in handling. Works well with all my materials. Easy to use, very sharp.

I loved these scissors. I paid $80 for them. Everytime I used them, I carefully put them back in the box they came in. I won't let any members of my family use them because in the past they have ruined so many pairs of my scissors. They are so sharp and handle easily which is important to me as I have severe arthritis in my fingers and using my hands is always a challenge. But I am so disappointed in that the first time I dropped them from my cutting table, not directly onto the floor but on my shoeless foot (ouch!), then onto the wooden floor, the tip broke off the scissors as shown in the picture and my foot is numb!. Now should an $80 pair of scissors do this? NO!! I am so disappointed since I've barely used them and have taken such good care of them. I would have loved to have given them a 5 star rating but the quality in the materials used is certainly lacking and I cannot give them any higher of a review.UPDATE: After this review, the seller reached out to me the next morning. They sent a very nice post and agreed that the scissors were defective and would replace them at no charge. I did offer to send them the broken pair but have not received a response. I will update my review once the new pair of scissors come in.UPDATE 2: True to their word, the Seller replaced the broken scissors!! I received them in just a few days. The new pair work great! I am so pleased with the Sellers kindness and expedited replacement. These scissors are such a good purchase. I love the way they do easily cut fabric. To be fair, I Am changing my review to give them a 5 star rating. They deserve it. This kind of service is few and far between in today’s world. Thank you so much Geggenheim!

These shears are easily the best pair I own. It took awhile before I dared test them; I didn't want to be disappointed, and I wanted a good test against the other shears I have (Fiskars and Kai, I've long since misplaced the Ginghers I had). Cutting out a pants pattern in wool gave me just such an opportunity. And these shears did NOT disappoint. These sliced through the material almost as if it wasn't there. The cuts were exceptionally clean as well. Comparably, the Fiskars had some definite resistance, as did the Kai's (though, to be fair, the Kai shears have a serrated edge for more slippery fabrics). The only downsides I can possibly find are that the shears are a bit weighty (but I expect that from solid metal) and they'd likely have a hard time with slippery fabrics like charmeuse without an impressive amount of sizing or starch (as it is I don't have any charmeuse to test the shears on, so this is a guess based on how they handled garment wool)

I had no idea that scissors could be so dreamy! The Guggenhein IX really do cut like a dream! These are my first pair of high-end shears and I am amazed at the difference between these and an equally-priced pair of Fiskar Dressmaker Shears that I bought just last week. The cutting is superior. The weight feels great in your hand without being too much. (Officially, they're not advised for those with arthitis, but I think that my arthritic mother could use them without issue, given the way the weight is balanced.) The tip of the shears cuts small details really well - far better than you would expect. They feel great in my hand. They look sleek and stylish. In less than 24 hours, I already know that I will never buy another brand.My only con is that the packing grease used on my pair was a bit much, so the packaging got a little oily. However, that's nothing that can't be wiped up easily. It's just something to look for before first using on good fabric.I sew every day and I am team Guggenhein for life. You won't regret getting these shears.

I purchased these shears as a smaller option after first purchasing a larger pair from the same company. I am a costume designer and when I use shears I use them A LOT and on a variety of different fabrics. It is important to me that shears have a heft to them (don't feel cheap) and are not uncomfortable to use for long periods of time. Generally, extremely sharp shears with precise points are needed for me to be happy. I am thrilled with these shears! This 8" pair is much easier to use for more delicate fabrics and are razor sharp. They glide through everything from silk to cotton and work well on heavier fabrics as well (though I prefer to use my Guggenhein 9" shears for that). It is difficult to find quality shears at an affordable price. In the past, I have been lucky enough to work for theaters that can afford to purchase shears up to $180.00 a pair. Now that I work alone, I simply can't afford to pay that much. These shears give me the same quality as the more expensive brands at less than 1/3 of the cost. I would highly recommend and will definitely buy again.

These are the best fabric scissors I have every bought, I've had them for several years now and they are still as sharp as the day I bought them. I would highly recommend to anyone who sews.

I will admit that when I first received these scissors I wasn't sure about them. They have a completely different feel from my ghinger ones that I'm used to. But after using them for several months they have become the only ones I use. They slice through any fabric like a boss. They take just a little bit of getting used to with their rubbery feeling handles but now it feels weird to use scissors that don't have those kinds of grips. They are a really good weight and feel good in my hand. Yes, there might be a bit of getting used to them but trust me in the end they are worth it.

This is an excellent pair of scissors. They require minimum effort to cut through fabric and even leather. The scissors glide through material, are easy to open and close and leave a very clean edge. I have cut through several layers of heavier weight fabric and have had the same excellent results.
