I purchased the Jet AP-3 3 Ton Arbor Press from Amazon as a Christmas gift for a family member. I arrived at our home on the night it was delivered, to find it lying in our driveway in front of the garage door, sitting in a wet pile of leaves in the rain, the box torn and mangled, pieces of the arbor protruding from the ragged gaping holes.Apparently, at shipping time, the arbor had been placed into a plain cardboard box, with no padding or internal support at all. The box contained:- The arbor, in a clear plastic bag.- The instruction manual, in a clear plastic bag.That's all: No padding, no shaped styrofoam, no bubble wrap, no internal cardboard support structures, nothing. Just the arbor, its manual, and air.Since the arbor is essentially a very heavy piece of oddly-shaped cast iron (I'm guessing maybe somewhere between 50 and 100 pounds of weight?), there was no way this flimsy cardboard box could possibly have held it. Of course it tore right through the box the instant the first FedEx employee tried to pick it up. Examining the box more closely, we could see that it had torn through the box and been re-taped more than once during its difficult journey. Clearly FedEx tried to do their best, and were just fed up with it by the time it arrived at our house. I get the feeling the poor driver just dropped it off the back of the truck and ran.I can't blame FedEx here. The problem was that the item was simply not packaged for shipping. The way it was packaged, there was no way this could have survived shipment unscathed.I called Amazon and confirmed: 1. Yes, this order was specifically fulfilled by Amazon, not by any other third party company. In other words, the item was in stock at an Amazon warehouse and was shipped by Amazon employees. 2. Yes, the shipper was Federal Express, not a smaller third party company. This surprised me because I have come to expect more from both of those companies.In the end, the arbor is usable. It's hard to damage a giant piece of cast iron. One of the adjustment knobs had its plastic casing damaged, and a steel shaft that's supposed to hold the circular pressure plate centered has gone missing. But those are things we can replace ourselves, and so we're going to keep it as-is. Besides, the return process would be a nightmare, and, apparently we got the last one Amazon had in stock, so they can't replace it directly.To their credit: Amazon's customer service department was very helpful on the phone and has done everything they can to make it right. Their employees were friendly, understanding, communicative, honest, and helpful. They filed a report with FedEx for me, and filed a separate report to their own internal shipping department for me. Then they issued a $55.00 promotional credit to my account to help compensate for the trouble.

I promise this honest review is worth reading!I really wanted to love this press. I had been wanting it for a while, and even convincingly suggested my wife could benefit from the 3 ton rating if she decided to start pressing wild flowers. It arrived with the packaging split open, and pieces hanging out. Disappointingly, one piece was missing, the pinion retainer. This "Jet" product is actually just a completely generic 3 ton Chinese arbor press, except it has a cheap "jet" badge added on one side. The other side has an even cheaper looking gold "made in China" sticker. The set screw/knob on the slide handle isn't black, as pictured, but rather a surprisingly cheap red plastic knob. There are several other variations from the stock photo, as expected from periodic changes in the generic Chinese manufacturing supply chain. The packaging also comes from China, and is very flimsy cardboard. It features the quality of packaging you would expect a $5 inflatable pool float to come in, not a 120 lb workshop tool. I have seen packaging this poor once before, when I received my "Jet" band saw. Noticing a trend? I only vividly remember the packaging from the Bandsaw, because it too was split open upon delivery and my "new" tool badly scratched. Back to the arbor press... I contacted Jet, and even offered to pay for the missing part, to avoid having to find a new box to repackage and return a 120 lb arbor press. After I supplied a copy of the receipt, I was told it was Amazon's problem and I should return the press to them. I replied to the email that I wanted to BUY the missing part, and never received a reply. I said if I had to go to the trouble of returning it, the replacement would NOT be a JET. I called jet later, and a different, very helpful rep said they don't even offer replacement parts for it. It would have been easier for the first person to say they don't offer spare parts than simply say it was Amazon's problem. Fortunately, Amazon helped amazingly as always, by issuing a partial refund and my local machine shop is ordering me a generic 40mm pinion retaining ring.Let me make this very clear you are not paying for "Jet" quality with this press, and Jet customer service was useless. These are completely generic Chinese presses, that are ever changing from oversea suppliers, which is why Jet can't carry extra parts for them. You may as well cut out the middleman and buy the cheapest Chinese "No. 3" arbor press you can find, because that's what Jet did. With the money you save, you can have a nicer "Jet" badge made than the one Jet had put on mine.

This product is good for the money. I was hoping it would help with some front wheel bearings but 3 tons wasn't even close wo what I needed. I have used for a variety of other minor jobs and it does what I expect it to do.

Just as described, knob for arm length adjustment was damaged but worked.Calling the manufacturer was useless, bought a new one at McMaster Carr.

Press is a great product. Unfortunately the shipping was a disaster. Shipped in a cardboard box which was destroyed at some point in transit. Was reboxed by UPS which was also destroyed. Press plate was missing (fortunately I didn't need it), and handle friction lock was broken off (had to use a screw extractor to remove, and am just using a bolt). This item is just too heavy for simple boxing to protect it. Needs to be crated.On the plus side press pinion is easily removed to reposition handle, arbor has a square face end and one with a hole to accept pins, or riveting attachment.
