When you’re dishing out blast-beat-driven grooves and extra twisted melodies from downtuned depths like Jim Root, you need a set of strings that will stand up to your onslaught while staying in tune. He came to the Dunlop String Lab to design just such a set. Jim handpicked each gauge and core size to ensure peak performance, from feel and response to tuning stability. “These strings give me what I need to get my sound, and they’re comfortable to play no matter what I throw at them,” Jim says. “They keep their high-end clarity for a long time, and they’re really consistent from one pack to the next—they never break on me.”

I really like these particular Dunlop series of strings that tell you what tuning they're for. Straight to the point. You want Drop a? Drop b? Drop c#? Drop D but for les paul scale (trivium set)? They have everything and every time I get these and throw them in the tuning on the box, it just works perfectly and takes the guessing and google searching out of the equation entirely. You want to play in drop b but need the right strings? Click the one that literally says drop b on the box. Boom.

I sold my Ibanez RG7 years ago for reasons, mostly storage, lack of time to play and the fact that it was really annoying trying to avoid the B string to play non-7string songs. A couple weeks ago I got a wild hair and decided to get another guitar, this time another Ibanez but a 6 string. After trying to tune down the strings that were on that guitar and hearing how warbly and weird it sounded, I found these and decided to give them a try. Its a night and day difference and I can even tune as low as f# for the couple of 8 string songs in the catalogue without having to deal with a fat neck and extra strings when I don't need them. Plus the bottom 3 strings are an appropriate gauge comparatively so it just works out great overall. If you want a 7 string sound without having to use a 7 string these are legit.

I put these on a Jim Root Stratocaster. The fit and tension seem fine when tuned to drop B. I had tried other strings of the same gauge in the past and the tension was loose and uneven but these are great. I will be buying these again.

The strings do exactly as described. Was able to play in drop B and A using them while maintaining string tension. You may have to file you string nut so your lower string will fit.

I've been using a 12-60 from Ernieball but when dropping to dropA the strings were so loose that it was annoying to play and tuning was very unstable. This set helps with that as the strings feel tighten at lower tuning, so dropA is now super easy to play without losing the tuning!I actually tried tuning my guitar to dropA# (everything half up from what it's supposed to be) and it's even better! Super tight playing and feel without screwing up the neck of the guitar.Guitar used is a Schecter C1 Platinum with a 25.5 inches scale.
