I used a 3 pound bag of this stuff to fill in patches in a yard I completely resodded two summers ago. Most of the sod died over the last year. Ended up regrowing most of the yard with this stuff. It took a while to get the drainage and moisture right, and the lawn is pretty heavily shaded. I laid a mix of this seed with potting soil (heavy on the seed) and raked it into prepared bald patches. Watered pretty heavily and vigorously at first (daily good soak). It sprouted within 3-5 days and seems to be doing really well. Dark green tone and seems to have rooted into the topsoil well. I'd say it's been superior to anything I've gotten from Scotts. Less expensive too.

I used this grass seed at my mother’s house. I seeded the yard in October. Most of her grass had died over the past couple of years and the area is really shaded because of a lot of trees. Her dogs run the yard which doesn’t help matters. I roughed up the dirt before laying down the seed and also watered regularly for a few weeks after laying seed. The picture says it all. It looks beautiful now. Hopefully it does well through the winter and looks this good in the spring.

I bought two bags of heavy shade grass seed.I planted one bag one week and the other two weeks later. Area was on timer water system watering 30 minutes early morning, noon and evening. Good soil on ground, raked into loose soil then covered with organic top soil. Area was fertilized two weeks before planting. Very disappointing results. Maybe 5-10% germinated and grew but died out about one week later. Not sure what I did wrong. Maybe I got two bad batches of seed. I wouldn't recommend this product. Wasted big money and many hours of work.

I’m finding that this product works well, After 10 days laying down the seed, I had new growth. Some of the new New sod I had was dying so I laid someone’s new seed down and I had new growth in 10 days green grass growing. I’ve had better luck with this seed than I had any other seed it’s worth the cost.

I bought 2 bags of the sun & shade mix and one of the dense shade mix. I did a small area about 6 weeks ago in the sun. There was new Black Kow fertilizer put on the ground and mixed with the existing soil. I had set up a watering system. The seed was raked in lightly to the soil. A very tiny amount actually grew, but died the week after. Then I tried a larger area 3 weeks ago, also in the sun for seven to eight hours each day, shaded in the late afternoon and evening hours. Patch is about 30' x 50' that I did. In a few areas, the seed started, but very splotchy, there is more dirt showing than seed growth. Maybe 25% of the area is showing any signs of growth. Blades are very thin like Rye grass, none are any taller than 1-1/2", some just look like fuzz on the ground, and I am seeing areas where the new growth is already disappearing. The third section I seeded, I used the dense shade bag, this was also 3 weeks ago. This area gets maybe a couple hours of direct sunlight and about 10+ hours of shade. Same result, very fine blades, barely 25% of the seed taking. There is nothing thick and green about this. And with Black Kow in the soil, it should be zooming upward. Black Kow makes everything grow strong. Either I got some bad bags of seed, or this kind of seed just does not grow well.

My initial opinion of this seed was very favorable as it germinated quite well - better than the Scotts product I tried first. It was a nice, soft green. However, after about 2-3 months, it is just kind of sitting there. Not much growth, and no spread to sparser areas. No significant effect from fertilizer. My feeling is that heading into a Wisconsin winter, it is going to continue to die off. Losing hope for it.

VERY impressed with this product. I have a part of my lawn that is heavly shaded by a neighbor's tree. I tested the soil with a MySoil kit adding required nuetriants, then I used a scarifier to prepare the soil. I saw near total germination in about 5 days. I went from a completely bare area to full lawn in three weeks.. I believe keeping the seeds moist is the key. I used a steralized straw (don't use plain straw it's full of weed seeds) to cover and watered 4 times a day. I've tried other brands in this area and only saw either terrible splotchy germination. This brand is now my go-to.

Germinates as advertised and grows in dense shade where other grass varieties have failed. I have purchased this grass seed on multiple occasions and it has worked well every time. I won’t purchase from any other brand than J.G.
