Sent us a defective reed-instead of simply issuing a refund-they want me to return the split reed. Now a trip to post office, pay for postage-who needs this? From now on I will buy locally and pay a bit more. Honestly, it is a $15 item, not worth the drama.

This is good reasonably dependable off the shelf oboe reed. It works fine for beginners. They are reasonably consistent. Anything made with natural components will have variabilities and oboes are notoriously fickle. So, some reeds may not work as well or even not at all. I recommend having 3 working reeds , when playing oboe. I still teach and perform after almost 50 years with the instrument. I try to move my students from these within a month or so, but I don’t mind seeing them in their case for a backup.

Jones reeds are pretty much the standard for beginners. I recommend them for all of my beginner students who are going through reeds too quickly to justify paying $25-$30 for a handmade reed. Reviews referencing chips and cracks are user-inflicted/user error. Oboe reeds are incredibly delicate and need to be handled with care.

I bought two reeds. One reed came chipped and the other reed chipped after 10 minutes of playing. There is no way to return these either. This is a complete waste of your money. I would recommend emerald oboe reeds. They are the same price and are better quality.

I bought two reeds. One have defects and does not sound right. But no way to return!So, wish you have a good luck when you buy it. 50% chance you will have a bad one!
