First of all I did not buy this for what it was made for. We have a bad septic system and use this can for toilet paper. I use n 8 gallon bag for the liner, it shuts tight enough to control odor and no more septic problems. LOVE IT ! And yes, I would recommend it : )

The one I received has turned out to be 5.20 US Gallons or 4.34 Imperial Gallons. The storage area is about 11.25 +/- 0.125 inches in diameter and 12.125 inches tall (Is oblong not round).If you add the area of the elevated bottom it's 6 US Gallons but that is not part of the storage capacity in my book. The product dimensions they have listed in the description is the box it comes in not the item itself.Bottom line. If you don't need it to be 6 gallons capacity metal container with a foot operated lid but okay with about 5 gallons capacity it would be 5 stars
