Justrite compliance with Department of Transportation regulations for over the road transport of flammables is simpler and more affordable than ever with Justrite's D.O.T. Compliant AccuFlow Safety Cans - ideal when remote usage of gas fueled equipment is needed. To prevent vapor release and spills during transport, a hold-down bracket is tethered to the spout and equipped with a big, easy to grasp tightening screw. When used for the transport of fuel, the fusible link bracket is easy to engage and guards against content spillage and vapor release as required by D.O.T. The fusible link melts at 165 degree F to prevent dangerous pressure build-up at elevated temperatures. Simply disengage the fusible link bracket when the can is not being used for transportation purposes and the can acts like a normal safety can. AccuFlow's exclusive Safe-Squeeze trigger mechanism opens the piston actuated spout and vacuum release valve for accurate pouring. A release of the handle instantly closes the valve to guard against spills. Built-in safety features include internal flame arresters to dissipate heat and prevent flashback ignition; leak tight, self-closing lid; automatic venting between 3 and 5 psig (0.2 and 0.35 bar); and heavy roll bars to protect the spout. Meets DOT and HM-181 requirements. United Nations Approved. UN Marking: 1A1/Y1.2/100. Accepted container under CARB.

I, like many people who store gasoline, had used those cheap plastic containers for years and have never felt safe doing this. You may have heard the stories about how they can supposedly split or even explode. And the plastic IS porous allowing evaporation into the atmosphere over time. I just was not comfortable having them in the attached garage knowing they would truly fuel any fire once the plastic container melted. If you read forum comments on the subject, you hear that late model C.A.R.B. approved cans tend to leak more gas when trying to use them and are just hard to use without spills. Don't see how this is better for the environment... and certainly not safer to use.I had first hand experience with the benefit of a metal container when I received news that my beloved street motorcycle (with a full tank of gas) had burned in a garage fire. When I inspected the charred remains of the frame and engine, to my surprise, the steel gas tank was STILL full of gas! Some of the aluminum pieces on the bike had melted and were laying in solidified puddles below the bike. But the tank was still intact. This had been a hot fire. But NO explosion or further fueling of the fire. Why? I've been told there is very little oxygen in a properly sealed gas container--the other component required for fire (or an explosion).I had done my research looking at various metal gasoline can manufacturer's products and reading user comments. In my opinion, the Justrite safety can seemed to have the edge over its competitors with the AccuFlow feature that allows you to CONTROL the flow into any gas tank with the handle valve. It just seems to have all of the right components for a safety gas can besides being a strong robust container. They are designed to seal and prevent vapor loss, but also safely vent in a fire instead of bursting under the pressure of expanded vapor and fuel. This particular model is also D.O.T. approved for transporting gasoline in your car. In an accident, the protective roll cage around the valve and filler is designed to help prevent spillage when the can bounces around or is impinged upon by other objects.Yes--okay--the cost of this particular model is six times the price of a plastic can but what price do you place on safety? When I consider the cost to rebuild a home, or tragically that of a life, the decision was easy for me. They should last for many years. In practice, a metal can is going to add weight when lifting. Slight folks, beware of this when choosing larger size cans. But on the plus side, it does easily dispenses gasoline into my lawnmower without spills and I no longer smell gas fumes around the can. Build quality, materials and craftsmanship seem to be excellent. The company offers replacement parts if needed. Highly recommended.

Feels like solid, made for the long haul, kind of equipment. I got a hell of a price discount buying yellow, so I went with 'roll bars' this time, and I like the setup. It pours gas when I need it, but I can leave the can nearly full in the garage, and not smell a thing.
