This is a very decent DAC/Headphone Amp. I do plan on purchasing another one because of the bargain price.First thing after arrival of my purchase, I opened it up for inspection right out of the box. Very nicely madeIt contains two upgradable NE5532 Opamps. I then put it back together. Then I listened to it in all it's modes. For the $59 asking price, it is a pure bargain. From my listening experience nothing wrong with the DAC, or the Opt, RCA, Coax. Everything seems quality inside and out. As an audiophile the sound is a little grainy. I got a gut feeling though that once I change out them Opamps with some real good ones. This thing will really sing!Update: I ended up buying 2 more of these headphone amps. Well worth the asking price.

Arrived very fast, two days.Heavy, well built in a solid metal case. Nice volume control, clicky, but a little course. Slick plastic knob that I don't care much for. The 3 level gain switch works, low is fine for my amp and high overloads the amp pretty quickly. Overall, it has a solid quality feel.I swapped it in for my Sanskrit Mk.ll in my desktop system and my first impression is that it's very neutral. Dead quiet, nothing seems amiss, but at the same time nothing stands out. Will it replace the SMSL? I don't think so, It doesn't have the sparkle and envelopment that the Sanskrit has when playing music. On the other hand, it nicely rounds off the edges of spoken dialoge with something like a newscast on You Tube. Maybe a little less "chestyness" with male voices as well. All in all, like my Topping D30 ll Lite, a comfortable sound that calms down slightly edgy speakers like my Aviatrix (Aviatrices?) pair. But doesn't have that bit of excitement the SMSL Sanskrit has.Still, for someone, for who music isn't #1 priority and is looking for a manual volume control and doesn't care about bluetooth or a remote, this device would be hard to beat.

Around Thanksgiving, my Schiit Magni Amplifier died leaving me without an audio interface. When looking at replacements, this option came up in my feed. While I did not have high expectations, I thought I would give it a try and placed the order. Boy am I glad I did! This compact Amp/DAC combo is far better than I could have anticipated. I was surprised by this device in every aspect from build to sound quality. If you are looking for a simple HiFi solution, then this challenges the best of them in the $100-300 range.Out of the box, you are provided with everything you need. The Amp/DAC which has a good amount of heft and density to it, a power cable, USB C cable, USB Stick, and Optical and digital COAX cables.Setup of the device was easy! Just plug the USB into your computer and connect your RCA output and you're off. A feature I liked on my previous device that carried over was the auto switch from speakers to headphones whenever a headphone was plugged in.The sound quality of this Amp/DAC combo is excellent! I'm not sure if it is the components used or the implementation, but this device sounds incredible. Far better than my previous stack. Everything came through crystal clear and full. I have several higher end stacks, and this compact combo hangs with the best of them.If I try to nitpick, the only thing I can complain about is the lack of a balanced option, but the setup is so clean that I can easily overlook this. Gain stages are not large, but do provide a little more oomf when needed. I was easily able to drive 300 Ohm headphones on the upper end of gain 1, or middle of gain 2. The Amp/DAC easily powered all of my headphones without even a struggle.Overall, I love this interface! It is a simple and compact solution that vastly improves the audio experience coming out of your PC. The addition of an AUX in allows for even greater functionality. If you're looking for a quality audio solution that provides an excellent value, then look no further.

Basically, I ordered this to drive a vintage pair of AKG K240 600 omh studio headphones made in Austria. They are power-hungry and at the listed max end of this units 16-600 ohm range. That's significant, because if you check a lot of the headphone amps on Amazon, many top-out well below the 600 ohms of this unit. Tried the AKGs connected directly to my phone (OnePlus 12R) and it drove them, but at a medium-low volume level: loud enough for background type listening in a quiet room, but not with the punch and dynamics I'd like. Then I connected the phone to this K5 DAC/Amplifier and the result was much better. I could actually drive the AKGs to a point that was realistically too loud. I have other more efficient headphones, but I wanted to be able to utilize the K240s. The unit has a premium look and all the switches and volume dial are smooth and solid. It comes with a cable for USB connectivity, although please note it's USB-C on one end, USB-A on the other. Fortunately I had a cable with USB-C on both ends, although if one were included that would be nice. I plan to connect a Bluetooth receiver (when I can remember where I put it) to the RCA inputs so I can connect a phone, laptop or tablet easily. I'm able to use the headphones and it sounds great - very pleased!
