You will definitely need to use a thermostat with it. It gets incredibly hot on the highest setting, and actually cracked my tank glass. This was partially due to my thermostat somehow shutting off. I like that it isn't adhesive, as most of the stick up ones I have ever used would fall off and the unstuck. The only thing I didn't like right out of the box was how short the power cord is. It did arrive in a timely manner.

Like to see her a lot it was for reptiles I used it for the top of the cage for my birds due to the red dust mite situation to help keep them warm and cut them away they're sick and recovering

I have ordered 2 of these so far. They are perfect for smaller reptiles. I use one under a Tupperware that I feed snakes in and it keeps it warm so they will eat well. Love it

I use this underneath my pet mouse habitat in the winter on the lowest setting, keeping them cozy. It feels like it can get very hot if you turn it up a little more. I wish there was an actual temperature gauge or temperature markings on the temperature switch to see how hot it is actually getting.
