What is Kalimba?
The kalimba is an African musical instrument with a wooden soundboard and metal keys. The 15-key kalimba that we are making at Juma Instruments is an instrument that originates from African ethnic groups in Southern Africa. In the classification of musical instruments the kalimba is in the category of lamellophones or plucked idiophones (Hornbostel-Sachs system).
Kalimba is one-of the names used for this 15-key African lamellophone. Other language varieties are Nyunga nyunga, Nyonga nyonga and Karimba. Karimba translates to “little wooden xylophone” and Nyunga nyunga translates to “something little that causes fun trouble”…
Variations of the kalimba are found all across Africa, for example in Zambia they play the Kankobela which has 7 to 12 keys. In Congo they play the Likembe which has 8 keys in pentatonic tuning.
How To Tune
Portable tuner, tuned piano or cellphone, or a tuning hammer. There are many free apps for both types of devices. Just search for “Tuner”.

Keys are bent down purposely to protect your thumb when playing. Our package contains finger covers, which provides extra care to your thumb. You can choose to wear it or not depending on your finger condition.

My kid loves it! What we like about it is that it’s fun, easy to learn and we can bring it anywhere we go. It’s lite, very good craftsmanship, really good quality and comes with a handy hard case! The tuning is also easy to do after research couple YouTube helpful tutorials.This kalimba makes crisp and nice notes, no dead tunes. This is the reason we are willing to pay in the $30+ range for this kalimba.We are so happy with it and enjoy playing every day! Thumbs up to the vendor for this high quality piece!

This kalimba is very wellmade. The wood is stunning with an inlaydesign. The tines all work. The price is not bad at all. Years ago I dabbled with a piano keyboard. I said Y not try something different n I'm glad I did. It's very neat sounding like a miniature harp. So simple to play. I purchased the easiest songbook for kalimba, which is for kids n the 100 songbook for kalimba. I purchased a Ad-20 transducer so I can plug into my Rockjam amplifier. U want something fun to learn, give it a try.

The Koa Kalimba is beautiful. I'm a woodworker so I appreciate the nicer wood and it's worth the extra money. The instrument itself plays well and is simple enough. The only gripe is that the higher notes (maybe the 6 highest notes) have such a short "tongue" that there is very little vibration and, therefore, resonance. The notes kind of just die off immediately after being struck. But, I mean, it's a cheap instrument for beginners, not a concert grade instrument. All other notes play beautifully well and have a great resonant sound.I don't regret this purchase at all and I love the hard case that comes with it. Worth every penny for a avid instrument collector like myself.

I had ordered this kalimba for music week at my job to play for my students. It arrived quickly and in perfect condition! It was very easy to hold and play, and I picked up the notes on it very quickly. I was amazed at the quality of this particular Kalimba, and even better, it came with a case so I can keep it forever! My students loved the beautiful sound that came out of it, and it was definitely a memorable experience for them :)

Comprei para dar de presente. Antes de entregar à pessoa eu testei o produto para ver se a compra era a desejada. Eu achei que iria receber algo entregue de qualquer jeito, porem a compra veio de uma maneira elogiável. Gostei muito do acabamentoChegou afinado, bem embalado, possui um Case (capa protetora para transporte) muito bonito e rÃgido, tem alguns papéis com orientações e sugestões de músicas, veio um martelinho também, mas do martelo não gostei. Não consigo avalia-lo (o martelo) pois usei pouco e deu a impressão de ser frágil e com chance de danificar o produto, então recomendo que quem comprar use prioritariamente os dedos mesmo. O som é muito lindo, parece de mentira hahahaQuando sobrar um dinheiro vou comprar este mesmo produto novamente se estiver em um preço tangÃvel, eu usaria este que comprei até em ambientes profissionais dada a satisfação com o som produzido. Na minha visão, pode ser usado tanto como brinquedo quanto como instrumento sério de percussão. É bem construÃdo. Espero que se sintam satisfeitos com a compra como eu me senti :)

É um instrumento musical muito interessante, fácil de aprender e de tocar o que estimula a tocar mais e mais, além disso é bastante portátil então você pode treinar e tocar em qualquer lugar levando-o numa mochila ou até na própria mãe. Eu gostei muito!

Por esse preço, achei que provavelmente teria algumas notas secas (que não ressoam), e achei que o timbre não iria ser tão bom, porém o produto é de boa qualidade, soa muito bem. Só o primeiro si que tem um pouco de problema de ressonância, mas eu descobri que tampando os dois furos traseiros resolve. Resumindo, achei ótimo mesmo.
