I bought this block heater to save on gas, reduce engine wear on cold starts and heat the car's cabin faster.Installed on my 2010 Ford Fusion. Works like it should. You will need a 14mm allen (hex) socket to remove the frost plug.I have the block heater plugged in a timer which starts about 3 hours before I need the car.At -20°C (-4°F), the use of a block heater can improve overall fuel economy by as much as 10 percent. In a test program conducted by Environment Canada, a vehicle sitting at -25°C (-13°F) was warmed using a block heater and then driven over a simulated urban driving cycle. This resulted in a 25 percent reduction in fuel consumption compared to cold-starting the vehicle and driving it over the same route.

Installation was easy enough. Drained the coolant first and added some high temp thread sealant. I’ve used it a few times when the temps were in the low teens and single digits (Fahrenheit). After about 4 hours in about 10°F temps, the coolant temp go up to about 65°. Not as warm as I was expecting but still plenty to make for an easy start. So yeah, I think it serves its purpose!

Kat's 11409 400 Watt Engine Block Heater......Correct item.....But power cord would not fit.....I Had the correct cord and heater operated.....After three or four times of use, the heater stopped working....Electrically checked the cord and heater.....The cord was fine but the heater coil was defective....But since I had it over 30 days, I could not exchange it....Wisconsin winter is longer than 30 days and the heater is needed more than 3 or 4 times...Had to get a refund and reorder....Point>>>>> of concern-Kat's you can do better than that.......

I ordered this Kats 11409 engine heater for my 2006 Ford Fusion, which has a 2.3 liter 4 cylinder engine, with a manual transmission. Despite what the Amazon guide said, this DOES NOT FIT my vehicle. As I later discovered, the heating element on the Kats heater is about ¾" TOO LONG. When installed, it bottomed out and cracked off inside the engine, would not heat, and began to leak coolant. Fortunately, I had the car parked inside one day, so I discovered the leak before all my coolant could have run out and destroyed my engine. After removing it I ordered a factory made one directly from Ford, and was able to figure out the problem. I'm not happy with this product. Save yourself the trouble, and buy one directly from the manufacturer of your vehicle instead. It will save you a lot of possibly very expensive trouble. This product is "fit for the pit".

Got this unit for my bobbed deuce and a half. Installed it easily and it tests out fine. Using my laser temp probe it was bringing the coolant up in temp quickly. I will get to field test this unit this winter. My goal will be to improve cold starting with a 2-4 hour lead time using a timer.Update; After install, the unit worked the first time I used it. Later I tried to use it again, and it was shorted out and caused the circuit breaker for the plug I was using to trip repeatedly.

Replacement for the block heater on my 1971 MF165 tractor because the ac cord broke off at the heater. Have it plugged into a ac thermo adapter and had no issues starting the tractor in lower temps.

We haven't installed it because the freeze plug indicated in the installation is right behind the injection pump. Really? Is that the best place for it?

If you are looking for a water heater for your M35a2 most people say to get the 600W version of the Katts block heater... but some models of the LDT/LDS engine have a different water pump where the 600watt unit will not fit. Mine was such a truck. About 1.5 inches in there was something cast into the water pump that prevented the 600watt unit from fitting... so I bought this 400watt unit and its about 1/2inch shorter and does not hit whatever is in the water pump (no, its not the impeller).I've used it a few times.... easy to wire up, heats up the water in the block as advertised.
