A frost plug heater is an electric heater that heats the engine of a vehicle to give quicker starts and protects your engine from damage that can occur during cold weather starts. Warmed engines also deliver better fuel economy, plus improves oil flow to provide better lubrication to the engine, which reduces wear and increases engine life. The frost plug heater also cuts back on pollution as it aids in vaporization of fuel, thereby cutting back on emissions.

installed 3 seasons (winters) ago (New England) so only used between November and March on a homeowner compact tractor (maybe used three times a month). went out this year, last week and plugged heater in about 4 hours before startup. started tractor and it spit and sputtered as if i started tractor cold (which is basically what i did)...tested power to heater, 118v...continuity test of heater element..open circuit!!!....dead heater in less than 3 full winters!!

The first one failed after the first use. The second one failed after 3 months. Yes I know not to start the tractor with the block heater still plugged in.
