Cobalt steel tools are similar to high-speed steel, but with more cobalt for improved performance when cutting harder metals such as stainless steel or nickel alloys. Uncoated tools feature just the base substrate without any additional treatment or coatings and are suitable for a wide range of applications. Round shanks allow use with a wide variety of toolholding systems. I saw a few European woodworkers on YouTube using these and thought I’d give this style a try. I hate the old standard fluted countersinks. They never leave a nice clean cone in wood. These do! They are extremely sharp right out of the package and can be sharpened using a simple homemade jig with a dowell and 600 grit wet/dry paper.
