I tried many switches to control 2 home depot "industrial" model fans. I wasted a lot of money with failures. They either turned on 100% or barely enough to turn. Though I am not crazy about the wheel design because all my other switches are different, it works great and I am happy.

I have two 4-speed ceiling fans on my lanai wired in series. Kind of a routine setup I thought. Nope! 3-speed switches don't provide the right rpm steps (I tried many). 1.5 amp rated switches (most all switches) don't provide enough current. I even consulted with the owner of a fan & light shop. After a couple of months of trial and error, this is the only switch I could find that worked for my situation. Why only 3-stars? While the switch does work, the look, feel, and operation seem rather cheap and unimpressive for such a high priced item. I'll use it for now but I'm still looking for a nicer solution.

Used this to replace a noisy dimmer controlling two high mounted ceiling fans without pull cords to change the fan speed. The dimmer itself wasn't noisy but the fans were. I was never able to enjoy the fans because the buzzing drove me crazy. Now I have 4 speed settings that are all very quiet. This dimmer uses capacitors to drop the voltage sent to the fans vs typical variable dimmer switches (which are really designed for lights not fans) which clip the the AC power sign wave sending a dirty signal to the fans causing them to hum. Even the most expensive variable dimmers designed for fans with big heat sinks cause fans to hum. Using capacitors to change the voltage is how most regular ceiling fans work to control the fan speed with the pull cord.If you are looking for a way to control the speed of your fans and want to eliminate hum, this is a great option. 4 settings gives you all the speed options you need with the slowest still moving a decent amount of air to the fastest at full speed with 2 more settings in between (most variable dimmers reduce the overall top speed). The knob looks like a rotary but it just has 5 positions. Mine came with 3 different normal color knobs to match existing switches compared to black on most dimmers that does not match anything. Pricier than the noisy variable dimmers but well worth it.The amp rating of the switch determines how many fans/devices you can run. 5 amps is nice and safely controls up to 3 fans.If there was a Con with this switch, it would be that the range of motion to change the speeds/settings is small (~30 degrees) and the fist few times you use it, you'll blow past all the settings and go straight to low because it's also reversed. The settings go Off, Hi, Medium Hi, Medium Low, Low. Most of us are used to the full range of motion (~270 degrees) from off to high you get with most variable dimmers. It just feels more natural to crank it up all the way for full speed. But that's ok, you'll get used to it and the no hum will put a smile on your face every time you use it. Plus its nicer to the fan to start fast and let it slow down vs having it crawl from a dead stop to slow.

After trying 8 different fan controllers, this one finally fit our needs. We have 4 fans on a single wall switch which resulted in a long and disappointing search for a fan controller that can power all 4 without a hum. Solid state controllers hummed like crazy, and a few others were not rated high enough. This controller drives them all without any noise.

Worked perfectly to control my two Hunter 4 speed fans. Very is to connect and control multiple fans without any issues.

It’s ok. Works. But price is too high.

I was unable to get these rotary speed switches to work despite connections to different fans. Had to return all 4 unfortunately.

Ok. I’ve been through 3 switches trying to control my 3 fans wired to one controller. This one is the ONLY switch that performs the way I want. Good control, no hum and rated for the amp draw of three or four fans. Nice touch was that all three color wall plates and speed control knobs are included! I don’t give many five star ratings but this one deserves it.
