We've only gotten to use this once but so far so good. As long as you keep the line taught as you reel it, you'll be fine. This is much better than the small reel that came with our kite. This doesn't feel super cheap and I have more confidence flying since I can get an actual grip on the reel. I have fairly wide hands and it fits alright. If you have huge hands, you may want to look at a larger reel.

Works smoothly. Strong string. The only issue is that I wear extra large gloves and the opening for my hand is a bit small for me.

This is such a cool gadget! It makes it super easy to run out kite string or wind it back up. The reel moves very smoothly and the whole unit seems really sturdy and well-made. I like that there is a locking mechanism as well. The string itself is great - it's lightweight but strong. It is snowy outside right now, so I'm really looking forward to warmer weather when I can try this out. I will update if there are any problems, but it seems like this will be great for us!

This is a pretty slick kite string reel. It uses a number of ball=bearing rollers for easy winding. You can lock it to keep it from unwinding further. It comes with its own swivel clip. My only gripe, so far, is that it is a tad small for my hands. I'm a regular 6 foot fellow, so you can extrapolate from that. The directions recommend wearing gloves so that you don't suffer string burns, but the fit would be even worse with gloves. It is workable for me, however, and one needs to keep it appropriately sized for the kids who would be using it.
