I continue to enjoy kite flying even though I’m almost 70. When I'm told to "go fly a kite," I'm down for that in a flash.I have one particular kite consisting of horizontal louvers in a large rectangular fashion (3.25 feet across and almost 4 feet vertical) which creates a phenomenal lift because of the air flow. That kite catches the wind so well that it is the easiest one of all my collection to get airborne; it’s also the most difficult to reel in because of this design.Handling this large kite and getting the line back in was a “reel†chore using one of the small hand-crank reels because of the stress it puts on your wrists and forearms. The design of this wooden frame makes it so much easier to get the kite back down. By giving a gentle tug, then relaxing the reel for a moment, I can roll the frame over to gather the string almost 2 feet every full circle turn with very little effort. That’s so much faster than with the small hand-crank reel, holding with one hand and cranking with the other one.It’s also much easier to control the kite with the stress distributed to both hands. The large handles are easy to grip without putting stress in a small area of your fingers like the hand-crank reels. I can also anchor this frame much easier if I just want to sit in my chair and enjoy how the kite dances in the wind.The string is a heavy-duty gauge with a swivel hook, which has a more advance locking method than my other safety-pin style hooks (like the ones used on a fishing line). This ensures the hook won’t open due to the intense stress.I almost lost this large kite due to one of those old hooks coming loose during strong winds. We had to hop on the four-wheeler and chase it for almost a mile down the beach. I stopped flying it in strong winds after that episode, which means I rarely flew it…until now.With this frame-style reel, heavy-weight string, and the durable hook, I’m able to once again enjoy taking this over-sized kite to the beach and have some “reel†fun.

I am new to flying kites as an adult. My granddaughters love it so I am getting back into the practice. The shorter lines just didn't satisfy, so I obtained this.It took some time and practice to get used to, but goodness it is worth it! This makes flying your kite so easy for longer periods of time, and so much easier to control that what they come with!The thick handles are so much nicer on the hands and lessen fatigue. I cannot wait to get my kite out onto the beach!

Update: i actually got to try this reel in full force yesterday, I ran about 600 ft on a super windy day. It definitely worked but I should have worn some gloves from the cold. Once I had to reel it in, It definitely took some effort trying to wind the line properly, and definitely some strain in the arms. But the wooden holder heald up, which was the most important. Fun either waySo, I'll be doing more testing later but I can't say I'm satisfied with this product, especially for this price. The line itself is nice and thick and feels super durable, and the handles are made pretty well and are also sturdy. The winding method also doesn't seem that bad either, works well. But my issues is the line does not stay on the center every time. It would be nice if the wood handle grips had some kind of rubber stoppers on the insides so you're able to use when the line tries to slip off the side while you're winding it. Over all solid products. Just a little pricey.

Gives you excellent control while flying and keeps your string manageable. I like the end string fish clip as I never thought to use that and it's easier to use without adding a lot of weight to it. Solid wood construction, but still lightweight. Just adds to a nice outdoor experience. Solid B+ rating as it is a little on the pricy side.

I got this for my 26 year old son who loves to fly kites. When we opened up the package, his eyes lit up - he was incredibly impressed with the quality of this product. The wood is very thick, which makes this sturdy and nice to hold. He found it was very easy to use and enhanced his kite-flying experience.This kite hand launcher is a great addition for a kite enthusiast!!

This launcher has plenty of strong string and a hand spool for letting string in or out. Although designed for adults, some older children may be able to use it after instruction and practice. Once the kite is up it can be easily controlled.

I review a lot of imported kite products and SGftre has consistently been a better product, maybe worth calling a premium, in terms of quality and design. This is a simple wooden spool with more string than most people need. The wood has a smooth feel. Relative to the more modern circular spools, this takes a bit more attention because you have to make sure you are winding down the center. I appreciate this product for its simplicity. Very easy to recommend it.
