The legs can be retracted into the plastic peg to transport within the instrument.
From the Manufacturer
The K&M 18020 Oboe Stand safely holds your instrument both at home and in live venues. The stand has four die-cast legs that provide a sturdy base. The legs' lengths are fully adjustable, so the oboe stand is still functional in small spaces. The lightweight stand's screwed, detachable construction fits in the bell of your oboe, making it easily portable. The stand is finished in a smart black color and is ideal for musicians wanting to keep their oboe safe and organized.

This oboe stand is incredibly ingenious! The plastic conical portion actually houses the legs. After you unscrew the bottom assembly, the metal legs collapse down. Then you invert the assembly, place the legs into the conical housing, and screw it back in for very compact storage. However, I don't think I would store it in the bell of your oboe because it could possibly damage the bore as the stand wiggles during transport. It's conical shape does not allow it to fit well in cases, but it is small enough to fit in loose zippered pockets. As someone else mentioned, too bad no rubberized pads on the feet of the legs to prevent the stand from sliding on the floor or table. Adding pads to the feet might not be a possibility either. The feet of the legs meet and actually touch when folded and might prevent the unit from closing properly when the legs are placed in the conical housing for storage. On the other hand, perhaps omitting a grip was done by design. With gripped feet, the oboe on the stand might be more prone to being tipped over if jostled.Either way, highly recommended!

I needed a stand for my oboe that would not tip over and damage it and found this one online. It is very easy to use. You unscrew the cone part from the bottom, stretch out the four legs and screw it to the top. The opposite is done to put it away. It is easy to carry around (very small and ideal for when you have limited space for a stand). My oboe has stood in place for hours without falling over. Very happy with this purchase!

This stand folds up small enough to fit in the side pocket of the Protec case. It's well designed, lightweight, and fits the oboe bell perfectly.

This stand is great! It folds up small and my oboe fits perfectly on it. The stand is sturdy and doesn’t wobble. It works well on both floor surfaces I’ve tried (hardwood and carpet). It’s totally worth the price!

Works well and is pretty stable but peg is about an inch too long to fit into the oboe bell in the case, which makes it a little awkward to carry around.

I thought about spending $10-15$ less and finally just pulled the trigger because it was highly rated, seemed to be made of the best materials, plus someone I respect recommended it. When I got it, I was super impressed. It is compact and light, and so well engineered and thought out...easy to assemble and disassemble...and stable. I and my new oboe couldn't be happier.

Works very well, safe for oboe. Also, easily collapses into a small, compact unit that can fit inside oboe case cover or pants pocket. Nifty clever design!

There are a lot of stands on Amazon that claim to be "oboe, flute, clarinet stand" or whatever. These instruments are not the same, and require different stands. This Konig & Meyer stand says it's an oboe stand… and it actually fits an oboe! HURRAH! I really shouldn't be this happy, but it's the third stand I've bought and finally I have one that works.

The headline says it all. I needed a solid base for my oboe during practice sessions but it needed to be easy to carry. This one is very satisfactory on all fronts.
