I installed this pickup on a mandolin. Sound was true and undistorted. Volume control works well. Took a couple of tries to get it to stay on the mandolin, but that was on me. The package was missing the wood shins. I emailed customer support, they responded promptly and the shims were in the mail shortly there after.

I, a 74 year old 'hippie', have been playing stringed instruments for nearly 60 years. I currently have multiple banjos (4, 5, 6 and 12 string), guitars (6 and 7 string Russian and 8 string parlor, acoustic bass and Flamenco), Resonator guitar, dulcimers (3, 4, 6 string), violins (electric and 'acoustic'), Venezuelan and Puerto RIcan cuatros, Columbian tiples, Weissenborn, etc. etc. - So what you may say. This: those with built-in pre-amp pickups - no problem. Those with 'tie-down' strings (classical setup) the KNA-NG1 which you attach under strings on saddle work excellently for true acoustic reproduction - same for the KNA-UK1 for ukuleles, etc. - However, sound hole pickups leave much to be desired usually - but this pickup, the KNA-AP2 (and quake hold museum putty) are exactly what is needed. I highly suggest spending the extra $10 for the one with volume control (KNA-AP2 vs KNA-AP1) - such a nuisance otherwise to have to keep reaching over to the amp. Regarding the putty - provided you do not leave it on the instrument for days at a time, and you 'twist' it off each time, it should last you about 3 lifetimes and leaves no stain or residue whatsoever. However, I would still test it first to insure the finish on your particular instrument is not the exception. The pickup is about as true to the sound of the instrument when amplified (provided you use an acoustic and not electric amp) as one could possible expect. When I play at 'gigs' I quickly and easily can transfer the pickup from one instrument to another without any problem whatsoever. Why not buy one for each instrument you may say? What for, they are so easily put in place (be sure and find the sweet spot for each instrument) and removed. Plus why have more than one since you shouldn't be leaving them on the instruments beyond performance time anyway.Bottom line: You can pay more (which I have for other 'stick-on' pickups, some with built-in microphones, etc.) and always reach for the KNA-AP2 rather than any of the others. 5 star product - definitely, and an honest price for the quality - try it, I am sure you will love it.Oh, do I sound eccentric what with all these instruments? At my age they are how I pamper myself and are both legal and moral.

Works as promised and is an easy, non-invasive installation. No adhesives are used like the other options, so this is the safest alternative. Not sure if I can recommend this for higher end ukes or attaining rich sound across the spectrum. I wanted to try this for a tenor Kamaka and the upper mids to high end sound tinny (think of a tin can). It definitely sounds better than a cheap pickup, but it doesn't sound like a pro audio one either. You might be able to fix this with EQ, but I haven't been able to do it myself. If you plan on using distortion you can ignore the previous statement. It will work like a charm. The pickup is very sensitive, so it's easy to get unwanted sounds of rubbing or thumps without much effort. Definitely will make you adjust your playing style. Again, might be able to fix with EQ, pass filters, noise reduction, etc. With all this said, I recommend it. The non-invasive nature of this pickup is worth the price alone, and the sound quality compared to other external pickups adds to that. You will have a good time with it, and it beats drilling into your uke to install an internal pickup.

I am happy with the quality of sound in this pick up. My Yamaha classical guitar sounds full and balanced when the pick up is located about an inch in from the outer edge and in line with the low E string. The connection wire needs a firm attachment to the strap nut. I use the eye of a velcro wire wrap. It needs a strong double sided tape to hold it to the guitar or it's always falling off . Love the on board volume control.

Nice pick up that fits only certain ukuleles, so make sure there is room on the bridge.Construction of pick up rather delicate. Mini to phono cord is cheaply made, May last a few gigs.I'm going to find a sturdier cord at a electronic store, one that is sealed at the wire/plug connection.Or buy some heat-sink wrap to reinforce the wire to mini & phono adapters.Overall, the pick up sounds fine, looks better than the stick-on passive.Sounds slightly better because of the bridge location, evenly picks up all the strings, instead of just one spot were it's stuck to.Time will tell how long this product will last, kind of expensive for what this is.It's an encased under bridge pickup strip, wired to a mini female adapter.

After installing the pickup, my uke spent several weeks settling back into tune and staying there. It was easy to put it in, but don't expect to be playing anything immediately. That out of the way, I've never gotten output from the thing. It does nothing. I plugged it into my mixing board, no output. I tried a guitar amp, a DI box... nothing. It was very easy to install, just absolutely pointless to do so.

I have a 50yr old Yamaha acoustic guitar. This pickup captures the sound of the guitar very well. Nice option for not cutting into the guitar for an on board pick up .
