Just received this suspension mount, and it works beautifully with my Rode NT1000.A little background... I use the mic primarily for voiceover, and for years have had it mounted directly to the mic stand using the NT1000's included clip, which has always bothered me as an audio engineer... just bad practice, really, and that's why I bought this. I've never had a lot of trouble with bumps and rumbles, because I'm pretty good about not banging it as I talk (and my floor is carpeted concrete, so floor noise coming up through the stand is not an issue). But I have noticed that big plosives that jostle my popscreen (which is mounted via gooseneck to the mic stand and therefore coupled to the mic) can cause an extra mechanical noise due to that coupling. And when I *do* tap the mic stand or the pop filter/gooseneck, it really is a horrifically loud bump.So now I've installed the Koolertron shock mount, and my before/after tests are conclusive: it's doing its job well. My plosives are slightly less messy... not a huge difference, but a noticeable one. And tapping the mic stand or the popscreen's gooseneck is several dB quieter-- a huge difference (I didn't measure, but about 5-6dB lower to my ear)-- and now consists entirely of low bass rumble. Before, there was much more of a low-mid metallic quality to the noise, and that is all but gone.A word about fit: my Rode NT1000 is a large, heavy condenser mic with a 54mm-diameter body. It barely fits this Koolertron mount, but true to Koolertron's description, it does fit! If you have an NT1000, you will be fine with this mount, even though you have to spread its friction-mount clamp all the way open. And once it's in, it does not feel as though the mount is straining to hold it in any way. That said, I wouldn't try this on anything larger than 54mm. It will not fit a Neumann U87 or TLM-103.The mount feels pretty well-built, and all parts that can be are made of metal (the bungees are made of bungee). The 5/8" female connection to the mic stand is solid and secure (it also came with a metal 3/8" adapter), and the thumbscrew that tightens the angle joint between the mic stand mount and the basket is a very solid-feeling metal of appropriate size for the application; these things can sometimes be too tiny and you hurt yourself tightening them with heavy mics, or made of plastic and they break. Not a problem here.Bottom line, if you have a mic that needs to be mechanically isolated from its stand, and it's anywhere between 48 and 54mm in diameter, this is a solid option, and a great value. Highly recommended!

+ It holds my condenser microphone steadily enough to alleviate fears that it’ll fall+ It serves the purpose of absorbing floor reverberations if you tap your foot while recording+ When you install it correctly, it looks beautiful holding the condenser mic- The materials aren’t the best quality, but for the low price, this is completely understandableThere’s a psychological component that comes from using a shock mount that tells you that you’re taking things one smaller step forward. It’s hard to explain, but once you put it in place, it all makes sense. It looks professional and a a decent sized condenser mic fits into it perfectly without any concern that the mic will fall.Lightly tapping on your feet to time your recordings typically won’t be recorded my a condenser mic if you’re standing, due to the typical pick up partern of an XLR based condenser mic, but the light reverberations may affect the sound. This shock mount theoretically helps reduce, or outright remove that effect due to how the mic is suspended by the rubber bands. There really isn’t much else to state, other then the obvious, it’s asteticslly pleasing and it serves it’s basic purpose. It’s also inexpensive, so there’s that. For anyone who’s home recording vocals and doesn’t have a shock mount, it may not seem like a necessity, but at this price it is a small upgrade.

What I like about this is that it fits my Aston Spirit mic which is a thick and heavy microphone comparable to the likes of an RE20 but not as extreme. This is a shock mount that'll fit pretty much any microphone. There are going to be some exceptions to that and if you know you have a thicker or heavier than average microphone than this is something to consider. I would not be able to fit my RE20 in this and, as I said, my Aston Spirit fits quite snugly. Not to the point where it's busting at the seams but it does stretch it close to where the limits may begin to show. For something like a Rhode NT-1 or similar mics then it won't be a problem.Besides just fitting the mic, it has to absorb shocks and it does that job well. Not extraordinarily but it does the job. It does a great job for the price range its in. Now, if it cost more I'd have to be more critical of it.The mount screws on with plastic threading that I'd be careful with otherwise you'll strip it and have to buy another one. It's not fragile but just don't screw it onto the mic stand like a cave man. The key that adjusts the tension arm is also plastic and can easily hold up a heavy microphone in any position but newbies like to overtighten these and since its made from a more brittle plastic you're more likely to crack it so just go easy on the tightening. Once the mic is in the spot you like just give it a gentle hand turn of a quarter turn and let it go even if you feel like it can go tighter. The goal is to keep the mic in place, not screw the thing down as far as it can go and it'll be fine.Overall I would recommend this for people like me who spend more money on mics than accessories or those who are new to recording.
