I was having a problem in my hallway ceiling. I kept getting a wet spot in the ceiling sheetrock. It was about 3 inches in diameter. At first I thought there was a roof leak. But then I realized it was leaking when there had been no rain for a while.I have an attic. It's less than 4 feet tall and there is no floor. You have to walk on the trusses. The other problem is there's a foot of blown in insulation up there, so you can't see the trusses. You have to feel your way with your feet. And did I mention the daytime temperature up there is usually 130 degrees. Sometimes more. So the stay time is only a few minutes. Too dangerous for an old guy like me.So, I bought this. There was a ready made hole in the ceiling from where the water had softened the sheetrock. I turned the device on and inserted the tip of the probe. It took a little while to get the feel for guiding the tip of this endoscope to where you want it to be, but the learning curve was not very steep.I got the tip all the way up to the underside of the roof. The light on the unit was plenty bright to illuminate the areas of interest when I got within a foot or so. The entire underside of the roof showed no evidence of any leak. So what's going on? Then I saw it. The ducts coming out of my air handler had condensation on the outside of them where two of them came into physical contact. These ducts are the 6" diameter flexible foil ducts. The area where two of them contacted, caused water to condense on the outside of the duct and drip off. This is what was causing my ceiling leak. What to do about it?I enlarged the hole in the sheetrock to about 16 x 24 inches. This would be easy to repair. I wrapped some unfaced fiberglass insulation around both ducts as far as I could reach in both directions. I tried to reroute the two ducts in question as far apart as I could, but they were both under some tension, so that didn't do much. I made a temporary patch for the hole in the ceiling out of some 1/8 inch plywood. I glued some rigid foam insualation on the back and screwed it up. This kept the hot, attic air out of the house.I let everything run for a week, then took the plywood patch down and examined the repair. No water. Everything dry to the touch. No water on the plywood or foam insulation. Looks like that's what the problem was, and it looks like the repair worked. Then I started to get some proper insulation up there and make a proper sheetrock repair. So, this endoscope...well made, easy to use, and the image had excellent resolution. This thing helped me solve what could have been a very frustrating and expensive to fix problem if I had hired some pros. If I hired a roof guy, who knows what he would have come up with. But, I'll bet it would have involved a roof repair or replacement. And I wouldn't even have thought to call an AC guy for this problem. I have never heard of this type problem before. But I'll bet his solution would involve new ducts and a lot of my money. So, if you like doing things yourself, this is a great tool to have. I can think back now on dozens of things I could have used it for. I only wish I would have bought it sooner.

I picked up this endoscope because I had some projects that needed a view underneath, which I will explain in a moment. First, this has good quality image feedback with adjustable led light that can be adjusted while being used. Basically? If you can get the scope under, behind or inside, you can get a view otherwise impossible. I’ve had projects where I put my phone on a selfie stick and once my phone fell off behind the HVAC unit and it was difficult to retrieve. If it had been wet (or worse) my phone could have been ruined. My first project was to investigate a mushroom growing out of a crack under my bathtub. I was worried it migh be all over under the tub. I removed a trim piece on the wall in the next room, drilled a hole for the scope, and inserted the scope. It looked pretty good, so I blew some anti fungal powder in through the hole and replaced the trim piece. The next project was to investigate soft spots on my kitchen floor. There was a small hole which was previously drilled for a cable or phone line that I was able to insert the scope. My fears were realized when I discovered rot and insulation that had fallen all the way out. I repaired the damage.Next we were hearing “Rustling” in our AC vent. We were sure some animal was using the vent as a passageway around the house. What we discovered was a piece of plastic wrapper which had stuck to the side of the duct and flapped sometimes in the air flow. I actually used the scope to rub against it and it flew off the wall and out of the vent hole. Finally, and this seems silly, I dropped a piece of jewelry somewhere between my car seats. I felt all around, but couldn’t find it. I remembered my scope and began snaking the probe under the seats. I found the ring, my Chap Stick and a credit card I had replaced because it was “lost”.Overall, I like this scope. I was able to solve problems I never would have otherwise. It seems like it’s good quality, it has decent battery life, it has a 16 foot cable, and it has become one of my go-to tools.

I used it to see down a hole in a tree and behind a big desk before deciding if I had to move it from the wall to retrieve an important item that had fallen there (it had).It was difficult to maneuver the camera down the hole on the side of the tree. The cable is too flexible, so, unlike a tape measure, it flops on its own weight about 20" up. And it curves due to the coiled way it's stored, so unless you use it down a pipe or downspout, it's hard to guide it. This is just the way it's designed, so if you're not familiar with this type of equipment, you may be a little disappointed. I intend to use it to see inside walls, but it's had to push it where you need it to be.The camera/light head heats up fairly quickly. I used it 3-4 times now, and for about 3-5 minutes max, and the end of each use I could barely touch the end.It comes with a hook and a magnet to attach, but I haven't used them yet.
