Gears do not always engage. Engineering put the basket to close to the container floor causing any water extracted to slow down the spin. Not a well crafted product.

First off, two different salad spinners are shown in the product photos. The one with the clear lid (the first picture) is not the one the listing is for. It is for the green lid one with the crank spinner.This is my third salad spinner (I use them for a lot of things around the kitchen), and I'm pretty happy with it. It is a good size, not too small, perfect for defrosting and spin-drying a pound of shrimp or washing a small head of lettuce. It spins easily to dry, and the two-way crank on the top allows you to agitate whatever is in it like a washing machine when you have water inside. The slits on the sides and bottom are pretty narrow, so you can wash small leaves without a lot falling out of the strainer. The lid, however, just sits on the top, there is no overhang or inside lip to guide it into its proper place or secure it to the top of the bowl. Therefore, it is a little difficult to get it seated properly in order to spin, and you have to press down on the top with your other hand to keep the lid from coming off while turning the crank.
