My five year old loves this toy. Easy to learn and many things to build.

I followed a reviewers advise and bought a basic set of gears to accompany these. The kids loved this toy. All three grand kids were able to play together with these. Even the two year old was able to figure out how to build with these. They were busy for hours.

Well made and durable. I would encourage others to buy a more basic set along with this one - all the parts are compatible. My 3-year-old grandson has a lot of fun with these gears.

I’m a teacher and mom. My 2nd graders loved them, my kindergartens love them. My 13 year old step son and 6 year old son love them too. Great fun!!

I think this pack is meant as an expansion to the original set of just gears, but you can totally play with it just by itself. Actually, if you were going to get just 1 single pack, I might encourage this one because it has much more variety of things to build with, even if there are fewer key pieces overall. I got this with a more basic set of just gears, so we have our bases covered. I have to admit that when I saw the toy, I was thinking to myself, "well that doesn't look very exciting" but the kids seem to disagree--they have been excitedly playing with it for a couple of days now. I'm still not convinced it's going to have a ton of staying power, but they have let their imaginations take this concept and run with it. I've been pleasantly surprised to see just how many gears you can attach together and they all operate very smoothly. Eventually if you get enough of them and have them going up columns and around corners and things they do start to get a bit harder to mesh all up and you do get some seizing from time to time, but it has exceeded my expectations by far.And the cousins were thrilled by it when then came over, too. A great way to keep kids off screens and entertained. Time will tell how long it holds their interest...

I bought two sets of this toy for my 6 yr old twin grandchildren (one boy, one girl) who have several of these kits. They love combining the pieces and love showing what they build and create. I would recommend these to all parents looking for a toy that is colorful, sturdy and inspires imaginative play!

STEM has done a great job with toys and projects that introduce kids to the basic of mechanics and robotics. This is actually a great way to introduce them to mechanics in gears and movement. In terms of safety, there are a lot of small pieces that can be considered choking hazards so supervise as needed. Use with age appropriation in mind. The next thing is that there are a bunch of pieces so you can be sure this will take a good amount of time to build for a child. There are also different way you can make stuff with this set and you are not limited to what is instructed. There are no electrical pieces in this and it is more so to understand mechanics. In terms of assembly, my niece and nephew did need a little help when building it when it came to that part. There are instructions and they are pretty straight forward on how to build it. The instructions were not really anything confusing. The pieces have a bit of a similar design to lego technic. You can create the basic vehicles and see how each gear moves the wheel and such. The pieces connect and stay together pretty well. Short of dropping this on the ground, it will not break apart too easily. Not too much pressure is required to put pieces together. All the pieces are also pretty sturdy so you do not have to worry about anything breaking or snapping off. My niece and nephew were able to assemble this in a total of two hours and the figure is not very large. The vehicle is able to stand on it's own and move around on its own. You can easily move the gears and such around which is cool. Overall this is a good toy kit to have for anyone six and older. Again, I would recommend supervision as the pieces are small. The pieces fit together pretty well so you do not have to worry about any pieces falling off (especially the joints). This does help with building, problem solving and creativity. It is a great way to introduce children to mechanics.

Not sure who had more fun - the parent or the child! Bought for my son who is autistic and loves cogs & wheels. We had a lovely time together building then I left him to play with the finished product. Lots of designs included or you can freestyle. Sturdy pieces. I really like Learning Resources products.

I have got Learning Resources sets in the past and have always been happy with their quality and this one is no exception. They do tend to be a little pricier than other similar toys, and this set is currently retailing for around £30 (at the time of this Amazon Vine review) so is not exactly inexpensive and is a considered present rather than a small gift or stocking filler. However, it has the bonus of being both educational and fun.It is a STEM toy and given that you are designing and building 'Treadmobiles' from the 108 pieces in the box then it will certainly encourage a child to develop STEM skills, namely critical thinking and early engineering. The set has clear instructions and projects to do but the true potential of this set lies in the fact that you can build your own combination using the 108 pieces -- your child can create a vehicle that can flip, roll, twist, turn and move.Aimed at 5 years, this would make a good present for a primary school age child, and ideal if they already have other Gears sets as it's completely compatible. I am pleased with this product and I am happy to recommend.
